Here is a simple example.

Suppose that you raise chickens for a living. Without money you would need to find someone who is willing to trade their services for chickens or eggs. For example, if you need to have your washing machine fixed, you would need to find a repairperson who is willing to accept chickens for repairing the machine.

With money, things become a lot easier. You can sell the chickens to anyone who wants just chickens. You receive cash, and that cash can be used to get your repairs without the repairperson needing chickens. They can use the cash to buy anything they want, too.
