bug juice is acidic, dust is abrasive, cold and heat take a toll on rubber and plastic, ice is sharp, you can spend the extra money on teflon and high grade blades or change them every year, but it's a normal time frame, after four seasons of abuse and road grime, oil, and exhaust, it's time.

There is some or other liquid you can put on them, but the real reason is that your windscreen doesn't have any protective wax left on it. ** Take a hose and let water run over your windscreen. If the water doesn't run off in little droplets, there isn't any protective layer on the glass. Wash your car properly, wax and polish the whole thing and use protective windscreen cleaners. Also check it the AA website, not sure about the exact site name, but google it anyway. There's a great program that you go on to for free and select the area of the car you want to protect or clean. It works great.

Depends a tremendous amount on how much you drive, where and when; I once racked out a set of blades in a 600 miles motorway trip in winter - all that spray mixed with grit, salt etc - on the other hand my current ones have lasted 18 months so far. I do wipe the edge of the rubbers off when I clean the car and I don't expect the wipers to remove baked on bugs.

Hi Sinistra! It's a heck of a lot cheaper in the long run to replace wiper blades than have to replace the windscreen because of deep scratches.

Well you have eyes. Why they must tell you that you need to replace it? When you wash your windscreen or when it rains, turn it on and see the results: if your windscreen is clear the wipers are good, if there are thin lines of wather stays they must be replaced. And one first aid: Try to wash your wipers. The end which is sleezing on windscreen. You will se how much dirt is there.

Probably, yes.
Perhaps you should change them yourself, just before you take the car in for a service (or get someone to do it for you).
If the garage still changes them, show them your receiept for new blades and see what they say.
Personally, I'd replace the wiper blades before they wear out, as this is a safety related item. Same goes for tyres.

Is it normal? I think it is. The blades are subjected to a lot of different things. You have the sun's UV rays, road dirt, bug splatter, and so forth.
The wiper blades need to be soft and flexible. So when ever I notice the blades starting to streak, then I go ahead and replace them.
You don't have to have the dealer do it, you can do it yourself and buy the bllades at a auto parts store and you will save a few bucks to boot. good luck.

Blades go through a lot, so it's really good to always have new ones so just consider it normal maintenance. You could choose to buy the blades yourself at an auto supply store and get a better quality blade - you don't have to put Nissan blades on. I get the really heavy-duty ones for winter, and switch back to good quality regular ones the rest of the year.

it all depends how often you use them and the quality of the windscreen blades!! but i dont replace mine every year, maybe every 18 months to 2 years! i get a feeling that they just replace and charge you for them! you would know if they need replacing cos they wouldn't clear your windscreen properley, and would prob drag and occasionally they jump a bit when the are going across you windscreen! so if they haven't been doing this before you take it for a service then they dont need doing! but of course if they are in with the price of the service then you may as well have em done!

Do you personally think that you need new wiper blades?
The life of the blades depends on you location, and how often you use them...
If you take your vehicle to a dealer for a service, they would tell you that you need to change your new air filter if a butterfly is stuck on it. IF YOU CAN SEE THE ROAD WHEN RAINING, THEN YOU DON'T NEED TOP REPLACE YOUR WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES.

No it isnt but on saying that,so many people will switch on the wipers in winter before the screen is fully defrosted, and slow deterioration begins way back Also it depends on how good the replacement ones are Stay lucky
