Yes , I usely say oh well your not talking to me so I can not ask if you want something to eat so me and the kids are going to go do something come find me when your talking again. And we just leave him alone to think things out.

I'm quiet verbal when upset . When I get the silent treatment (which is most of the time) it just tends to make me more p---d off and I tend to curse , rant and rave till it gets out of my system a little bit. Then we just don't talk for hours and pretend the other doesn't exist.

I can understand someone needing space, or time to process a problem, or getting silent when the argument gets out of hand... (to cool things off) If I had a partner that did it for days, I think I would laugh because it is so childish.
Adults solve problems. Children get sullen and refuse to talk because they are unable to resolve conflict.
If I was intimately involved with someone that had that problem.... I would wait until that particular problem was over.. wait until they were back to normal and I would lovingly approach that behavior .. try to talk about how it doesn't really accomplish any thing and let them open up about how they feel when they do it and what they think it accomplishes for them.

Yes my spouse does this sometimes cause he knows it really pushes my buttons. I hate it. I'd rather sit down and talk about the problem, fix it and move on with our day. He, on the other hand, would rather go upstairs and hide with no talking.
I used to follow him upstairs and stand there talking to him while he sat there ignoring me with no response. Now, I just go about my day and ignore him back. He can have his little juvenile tantrum. I just plan on ignoring him for the entire day cause that's usually how long he gives me the silent treatment. Next day, he acts better but never apologizes. Needless to say, his behavior has really hurt our relationship.

we used to do the silent treatment alot in the beginning. But I hated it so everytime we resolved the issue, which usually wasn't a big deal any way, I would tell him that we have to wrk out a more effective method of disagreeing.and that I hated walking around the house all day like that. so now he doesn't do it too much and not for the whole day.I'll tease him and say lets just argue naked and get right to the make up sex!!that always helps speed things up!

Yes well before I used to give it, now I take it.. hahaha well I move too fast.. we have to remember to let people cool down give them time, the blow fish is emersed in water and it can't go down fast, so run a bath and relax, then after that make a prayer to your lord and thank him for your life and peace, and then go down and be nice, just wait for them to come to you again, sometimes they find error in time and get over the fear and then repair quick, and well other times its good to get some icecream huh... hehe cool again!

What happens is the happiest and peaceful days of my life return. Until she opens that yap again. Lets face it....she can't keep quiet even if her life depended upon it. Sometimes I think she breaks her 'vow of silence' just to aggravate me because she isn't getting the desired result.

I am sure that you can ask them what is wrong maybe it is something that they are goingt through and they don't know how to approach you about it. If it does not work I guess you can always give them the silent treatment back.
