It's a short playoff series, so they realistically have just about as good a shot as anyone of winning.
Those who make playoff predictions generally have no idea what they're talking about. I spent the whole 2006 postseason listening to everyone ridicule the Cardinals' chances, much as they'd done with the 2003 Marlins.
In a short series, any team has a chance. I just don't understand why so many fans have difficulty in grasping that concept.

If they make the playoffs they have a pretty good shot. Really, the AL is so tight right now that it's going to come down to whoever is the hottest come playoff time. All of the major teams have a pretty good 3 man pitching rotation (in the Yankees case, assuming their veterans step it up for the playoffs), which can be the biggest thing and as much as I find the Yankee fanatics on this site to be nuts to believe that they're just going to waltz into the playoffs with ease (I think each divisional 2nd place team having about a 33% chance at getting in with my intuition telling me it will be the Mariners) I completely admit they are an incredibly dangerous team.
Any of the AL teams, once in the playoffs, has the quality of team to take a series (particularly a 5 gamer) from anybody.

i'm sorry, yet everybody who says they have not got of venture is a hater. I usually do no longer attain for that card, yet for this reason, i've got faith justified asserting so. How is 4.5 video games returned on July 22 supply them "no threat?" supply me a smash. in the event that they have been 10 video games out, then you could persuade me. for this reason, you asserting no threat is greater approximately you HOPING they're going to omit out fairly than finding at issues factually. The Yankees pitching has been greater useful at present, led by potential of Mussina and Pettitte, the offense is finally taking off to awaken and the alleviation corps has been stable. Plus, A-Rod is the protecting AL MVP and in spite of if he's had some yips interior the previous, he continues to be a tension to be reckoned with. Now, i'm no longer asserting it in keeping with those 4 video games, yet this team is conscious a thank you to get to October. (triumphing then is yet another remember.) This Yankees team is a few distance from accomplished and that i think of they have an superb threat of getting to the playoffs. permit's see if the Rays can cope with the warmth of playing in August and September and permit's see if the Sox nonetheless have that killer instinct in September to place the Yankees away. don't be very much bowled over if the Yankees are playing baseball as between the 8 playoff contributors this October.

Assuming the Yankees make it (and I'm not convinced they will). They need to really evaluate their pitching staff and bring it down to a 3 man rotation and I don't believe the combination of Wang, Pettite and Clemens will do it. If they want to win a series they need for Hughes to step up and TAKE the #3 starter position from Clemens and Mussina, then they'll have a chance. Both Clemens and Mussina are outstanding pitchers against bad teams but look downright average against good teams. Hughes could give them the spark they need.

its a very slim shot. a WC birth will probably mean they get the Angels
and everyone knows that the Angels are the only team since 1996 with a winning record against NYY. its just bad. the yanks will have no shot if they have to play the Angels
if they somehow get the Tigers/Indians (AL Central winner) then they have a slightly better shot
the yanks problem is pitching. htey just dont have enough consistency in the rotation to make it through the playoffs
the offense is there but they cant do all of it

I am not a Yankees fan so let me start with that. So let's say they win the wildcard, then they will probably face Cleveland. They just swept Cleveland in a three game series and I believe they swept them earlier in the season. So I would say it would be a great chance they'd make it to the ALCS.

Slim to none...pitching is what wins in October and the Yankees are all offense. They do not have the pitching to win in the playoffs...if they somehow got in to the playoffs (which, by the way, I don't think will happen) I see them winning one game and losing the ALDS 3-1.

They have a good shot as well as the Indians or Tigers do. Never count out the Yankees, even if you hate or love em'. They will always be contenders.

None. They won't even win the wild card because Clevland or Detroit will win that. If by some chance they do win the Wild Card they will lose int he first round due to terrible pitching. Clemens and Pettite are great and even Wang can win, but the bullpen is horrific, and Rivera is no longer lights out.

Not at all. They have no chance of winning the ALCS, they'd be lucky just to make it to the post season. Clemens is too old and isn't the same dominate pitcher he once was, same with Pettit. Rivera is inconsistant in the closing role. The offense is great but it is more important to have great pitching/
