I need to take an another introductory programming course and I'm just wondering which would be more useful or versatile. I've taken Intro to VB and I passed but I don't want to just get by. I now have the option to take Programming in VB or Java Programming. I'm great in C++, I'm not sure why I had such a hard time w/ VB. In your experience which language was easier to learn? After taking one of these courses I have to take either Advanced VB or Assembly Language both of which I'm really nervous about getting into what did you think of Assembly? Thanks in advance for ANY advice.

Personally I find Java to be easier than Visual Basic. The documentation and examples are much more clear for Java compared to most Microsoft development languages. I've often found that Microsoft's documentation is a big loop of "see for more information" and after you follow those links, you end up back at the first document with none of the details you were looking for.

If you are looking to go with a Microsoft language though, I'd recommend .NET over Visual Basic.

Java, .NET, and Visual Basic are used by many different companies so you might want to do a quick career search for your desired career description and see what employers are currently looking for. Chances are that most of those positions will still require similar skill sets by the time you finish learning the language.

Well if you are great in C++ then Java would naturally be easier to learn since Java is based on C/C++ so a lot of things are similar so you'd easily understand all the basics.

VB on the other hand is completely different from C++.

Also I would take Advanced VB over Assembly if your worried about difficulty.

This depends on Aptitude. Most people will find VB easy and C++ very hard. For you I guess its the other way around. So you should definitely go for Java as it will be easier for you. Java+Assembly language will be more versatile and helpful than VB for your career.

Good Luck!

Visual Basic is very easy. And the biggest advantage is all the MS products use it. Like WORD, Excel to create macros. It will really help you a lot in work life if you know VB.
VB is as it says in the name BASIC. It is certainly not as robust as C++ or Java but given that it is integrated in MS apps, there is that definet advantage in learning it.

You can write quiet comples macros in excel for example and automate your spread sheets to process your work more efficiently. there is no built in C++ or Java available.

If you are great in C++ and had hard time in VB, its the teacher. It reallyis easy and a lot of fun as you can see your results without the long compilations.

You have a good experience in C++ and you are on this way, to go to the next chapter- Java is better. You'll learn just a little bit of Java and you can cross the basic of it at first because the almost of Java basic is same as in C++ that you know already. I suggest continuously take Java better.

well C++ is almost same as Java, Java will be easier but if you wanna learn I would suggest its better if you do VB. As you can work on your own with Java provided that you are good with C++.
Good Luck

I think Java is the more useful and widespread of the two, but not sure which would be easier to learn.

Learn JAVA
better than Visual Basic

The importing thing is to able to write programs
not to try to learn lots of languages.
