According to the BP ariticle I just read only 5% per 50 years, so, 1000 years total.

You have a problem don't you! I suspect you have had an oil tank leak, 1,000 litres?

Two answers, keep quiet and don't tell anyone. Second answer, costs a lot of money to have four foot of contaminated soil removed from the affected area. I know which I would choose.
