Second = 1/3x + 1/2y = 0. Subtract from first:
-2/3y = 1/3, and y = -2
and so from second, 1/6x = 1/8, and x = 4/3.

Test in first: 1/4 + 1/12 = 4/12 = 1/3 -- ok

so x = 4/3, y = -2

i think if you can get rid of 1 of the term when they have the same coeffient you can use the addition method. but my preference is still subsitution. =)
