Will be traveling in a small motor home and spending some nights in motels. Like small places, unusual, want to see local sites. We'll be traveling the first three weeks in December, leaving from Mesa, AZ

A very unique place is the Baywood Inn, a bed and breakfast not far from San Simeonhttp://www.baywoodinn.com/ . Even though it's a bed and breakfast, your room is completely separate from the rest of the facility. It's in the south end of Morro Bay, right across the street from a very short pier. EAch room has a unique decor, and it's in walking distance of the Audobon Bird Sanctuary and a short drive from the spectacular Montana de Oro State Park. Also close to the quaint little town of Morro Bay.

It's really off the beaten track, in a way that is unique in California.

Also plan to spend some time in and around San Luis Obispo, also in the same general area. If you like wine tasting, they have a fantastic selection of wineries in the area east of town.

Well, Ventura is almost halfway between San Simeon and San Diego, why not stop there and take in the sights?

The Shores Inn and Suites is there, 1 block from Pierpont Beach. It's pretty cool...

Be sure to tour the Lompoc/Solvang area, and stop in and visit at Solvang. Also, Santa Barbara is a fun place to sightsee.
