Let's say I'm connected to my company's server from my home. The whole "connect to" etc.

It says all of these bytes are being transferred or have been transferred the longer you are on.

Can any info from your other computers which are on the same router be seen by your company/the IT department?

It depends on your settings, but yes, it is possible for anyone on the network to see the files on your laptop. Just make sure File Sharing is turned off, for a start. It also helps to have a firewall on your laptop (either Windows Firewall or download one like ZoneAlarm).

Your VPN connection is likely only designed to hookup your single computer to the company network. The rest of the computers on the network do not have a connection to the companies network and won't be seen by your employer. Now that said, if you have network drives mapped and your employer has an application installed on your laptop, they might get some information, but I'd bet that this would be limited to virus scans (and I doubt they would configure this as most scans are configured to only read local disks).

The answer to whether or not they could do it is yes. However, it's very unlikely that the company would be searching the files on every computer that connects remotely. It's not the kind of thing they have the time, interest or resources to do.

If you are using a secure tunnel (a VPN or similar) then no. The rest of your network is as hidden from the office systems as it is hidden from the internet.

Oh, unless you mount shares from your own PCs on the works laptop. In that case you';ve put the shares inside the VPN tunnel and they are accessible from work.

No, not unless you have File and Printer Sharing enabled and you are sharing your c: drive.

Just to be sure, right-click on My Documents>Properties>Sharing, then check, Make this Folder Private.

Hi,
Don't worry only your Shared Folder can be seen by others on your Network.
