I mean no disrespect to the late Phil Rizzuto. Not being a Yankee fan, I never knew him as a player or announcer.

But I always associated the phrase "Holy cow" with the late Harry Caray. Certainly, neither of them had a copyright on the phrase, so it's fine that they both said it. I was just surprised to hear so many Holy cows in reference to someone OTHER than Harry.

Am I remembering wrong, or wasn't this a famous Harry Caray expression (too)?

Harry was broadcasting with "Holy Cow" in the 1940's while Rizzuto was still playing, but Rizzuto said he was using the phrase all his life. (Rizzuto did not become an announcer until 1957).
Both announcers claim they used the phrase to prevent themselves from swearing.
It's a pretty common phrase, so I guess it just depends what part of the country you live in to determine who you associate with it.

Phil said it better. Plus he said it while broadcasting the Yankees while they were winning championships so that makes it more important.
