This is an important issues in America.

Do you think more people should be encouraged to work harder instead of asking everyone else who does work hard to give them more money?

meg,

No one has to pursue a job that doesn't pay as much as they wish.

If a person wants to be rich like Bill Gates or a hedge fund manager, they should work hard to become a Bill Gates or a hedge fund manger.

I believe that I am responsible for myself and my family. If I want to get ahead, go on more vacations, buy a nicer car, clothes, etc... then it is up to me to work harder, or get a better education to get a better job. Everyone in the United States has the opportunity to better themselves, they just have to take it. It is complete nonsense that everyone should be taxed more to redistribute wealth among everyone. The reward for working harder is a better standard of living. In the Declaration of Independence, the Founding Fathers, cited rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Everyone has the right to live and to live in a free society. Everyone has the right to pursue being happy, that doesn't mean that everyone is going to be happy. You can pursue it you can work towards it and try to better your life and be happy. If you are not happy, that is NOT MY PROBLEM, figure out a way to deal with it that does not involve infringing on my rights.

Wages do not reflect how hard people work, but are determined by the supply and demand for the kind of labor you provide. A lot of poor people work very hard and some people get paid well for easy work. Hedge fund managers get incomes of hundreds on millions of dollars for investing other people money. Look at the income distribution at

and see if you can ascribe the differences to how hard people work.
