There have been several on YA ask the question, "Would you give up freedom for security?" Usually they are they are trying to make the point that we should NEVER give up freedom. Well, since another fatal car accident has happened involving someone text-messaging while driving, lawmakers are thinking of making it illegal to text while driving. Do you think these people should give up their freedom to text...simply for safety reasons?

I'm sure some folks will not read my question thoroughly and will not get my point. Whenever people ask for an increase in safety, there is a decrease in freedom. I am not defending a person's right to text while driving by any means. Some think a clear definition can be drawn between rights, privileges, and freedom. Freedom has several definitions. We don't have unfettered freedom. Many will argue that we cannot give up any of our freedom--even at a time of war such as this. I argue that sometimes safety outweighs what some see as a right or a freedom.

Great point!

Dems seem to block reasonable attempts to protect Americans.

Reid said he killed the Patriot Act.

Then he voted to renew it.

That makes me question the integrity/suitability of Dems to run this country.

Freedom is never absolute. Text-messaging while driving is like shouting fire in a crowed theater. A problem arises, when too many people are willing to sacrifice too much freedom for too little improvement in safety.

Beware the leader who bangs the drums of security to get you to render up your freedoms. while i believe that it is dumb to text and drive, it does not matter if you make it illegal or not. if someone is going to do it they are going to do it regardless if it is a crime or not. I think it should be passed into law but it isnt likely to be more than a fine. plus, how can the police "prove" someone was texting and not just looking down or something? people should just not do stupid things and life would be a lot safer for the rest of society who has to pay for these idiots. as technology advances we are bound to see many new things to distract drivers while on the road. let us hope that people become more focused on driving in the future.

There is no "right" to drive. You can have your license revoked permanently for behaviors such as drunk driving, driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving...etc.

If you are texting while driving and cause and accident that is recklessness and you can be held liable in criminal and civil court. Pay attention while driving.

Actually the laws already exist. You must pay attention when driving.

Secondly, the rights of one person cannot diminish the rights of another and the question that you are really asking is should I be allowed to ignore a law because it interferes with my life and can I simply say screw you?

Six million Jews being killed isn't basically categorized as terrorism upon human beings, yet additionally mass genocide. The Romans killed thousands and thousands of Catholics seeing for a sparkling faith. have been they nonetheless white nonetheless? and how relating to the united statesauthorities killing hundreds of nearby human beings just to take over land? Is that terroism, or no longer... because we are no longer Muslim? human beings now adays seem to have a obscure image of terrorism, consistently concerning it to: human beings of center jap international places, that experience planes into homes. properly the chilly and straightforward actuality is that there are literally hundreds of those that desire terror on others. Even right here in this u . s .. A criminal case in point kills yet another guy, it incredibly is inflicting terror on his sufferer. We too have been as quickly as the minority, yet rose to capability. So why no longer think of that somebody else stands out as the familiar public sometime? by potential of how, in case you think of that white christians consistently governed this land, you're incorrect. because of the fact the British of late 1700s surely owned the Americas. and that they too inflicted terror on us.

Driving is not a "Right" it is a priviledge. You need to pass a test in order to get your license.

You can't legislate stupidity.

Apparently, common sense is sadly missing from most people...and therefore, for the safety of everyone else, common sense must be legislated.

I believe that you are mistaking a luxury for a freedom. Sadly, too many people in this country mistake luxuries and extravagances for freedoms and rights.
