I can fool people into thinking that I'm listening but I'm usually thinking about how important my problems are compared to theirs. So I'm really just waiting for my turn to talk.

Yep, so much so that I've quit listening as well. People don't care what I have to say, therefore I have any reason to listen to them either. Found its easier. Am I becoming anti-social? Maybe. Does it make me a little sad? Maybe. Is it easier than having to deal with others? Definitely.

I feel like the comedian Ron White when he said that after the police came he had the right to remain silent but was so intoxicated that he just didn't have the ability.

I learned something very interesting in College, studying to be a youth counsellor. Did you know that if you re-arrange the letters in listen you get the word silent?! I dunno if I've learned to stop trying to fill empty space with words, but that little tidbit of info always stuck with me.
