Your question is little confusing. If you are residing in UAE on a work/residence visa then you will not get another visa till you cancelled the existing one. Your employer can purposely put 6 months ban at the time of visa cancellation if your residence visa category is "draughtsman". You can able to change your profession to engineer if the supporting certificates are attested and your sponsor is ready to do that.

If you are on visit visa then doesn't matter your current employer can't able to do anything against you.

There are very stupid laws in UAE for employers to exploit employees so they can extract your juice. If your current employer has got connections in Labor office for sure you are gonna get a ban.
