I bought my royal python 5 days ago (2mnths old), placed him in his new home and seemed quite content and adventerus. since then he hasnt come out of his hide and doesnt seem to be doing anything other than sitting under his rock. I have feed him 2 days ago no trouble there. will he eventually come out on his own accord or have i done something wrong. obviously i would like more contact with him but note sure how to proceed.?

Ball pythons are mostly nocturnal, meaning they come out at night. You should try adding a night lamp for him (infrared). I added one to my ball python's tank, and he is out every night. Also, it is recommended that when introducing a ball python to a new environment, to leave him be for at least 2 weeks, before handling or feeding. He will need to get acclimated to his new home.

(take a look at my yahoo 360 under view blog, and there you will see my ball python out with his night light on) http://360.yahoo.com/profile-FXhdQgMwa7R7BJmN5v.qcmBeAyyNtLs19g--

First you should give him a week to get use to the new cage . Second snakes do not come out to play . They eat and sleep , that's it . Ball Pythons are nocturnal , if you see it in the day time something is wrong . You should not hold them every day . Ball Pythons are docile but timid snakes . Heres a web site so you can learn more about your new pet http://www.repticzone.com

Before you fed it you should have given it atleast a week to settle into it's new home. Since you've feed it, just leave him alone for atleast 2 more days. Since snakes are nocturnal, watch him at night to see if he comes out. If not, by friday just go in and handle him for a little while. I know your a new parent, i was like that too at first and sometimes i still am, but he's just being a snake. He'll come around!

If you have just fed him 2 days ago, he is in hiding to digest his food. If you put his heating pad underneath the rock, then that is why he's in hiding. He will become more active after he has fully digested his food. Also, snakes are nocturnal, they are a lot more active during the night time. Another thing, they will be a lot less active if they are in shed mode. Just play those things into it, and that should be the answer to your problem.

Ball pythons are secretive. When they are not hunting or looking for a mate, they hide.
They avoid human interaction, and they do not "play".
That's the sort of thing that you should have known before you got it.

If I might suggest, you could try to look up a website concerning Pythons, and specifically Royals, and see what is suggested.
