I know that NOT ALL blacks are like this, but i notice the issue of respect is brought up more in the black culture, specifically in their music. They are always rapping about trying to get respect, giving respect, being disrespected etc.I'd like to know their definition of respect. I am referring to ghetto blacks that dont value education. This includes ones that throw food wrappings on the streets(breeding more rats and bugs in their neighborhoods which are already a mess), The ones that get into fights over menial things. They wear clothes that dont fit well. They have babies with different mothers and fathers and dont get married. They dont take care of their kids, yet they demand respect from others.
I know there are white trash, hispanics and asians who are just as bad but AGAIN, it's ghetto blacks that are always bringing up the topic of respect.
For ghetto blacks, I'd like to know If you dont respect yourselves , your kids, your environment, y should anyone else respect you?

This question is racist and there is no other way to describe it. I'm so tired of reading all this ghetto black rhetoric and why d o blacks do this and that; oh yea and I'm not a racist but....hence your question.
First, this question should have been directed towards street gangsta rappers or the individuals that live that kind of life. The kind of respect that they are referring to is street respect. I know nothing about that and there is a small percentage of the black community in a whole that does. Not everyone is raised with that type of street mentality. And just because you may live in the hood doesn't mean that the hood lives in you. Just because you may live in the ghetto does not mean that the ghetto lives in you.
You must not be aware of all the white gangsta rappers and more in other nationalities. So there for you can not generalize this under one race. They all speak about the same thing. "Street respect".
Keeping in mind that what respect may mean to one person may not have the same meaning to another.
The rest of the comments you make in your questioning have nothing to do with the topic you first tried to approach. The rest of the things you say are also seen in other cultures other races.

I'm a happy black women and I make 6 figures, I have a degree, I have a big house, I drive a nice car, so what's your point, not all blacks live in the ghetto,
Have you ever been to the ghetto, or is it just something you see on TV.
I really think you should worry about your own life and stop worrying about what others are doing

I would like to think people of any color can ask questions in order to learn without being shut out, shut up or belittled. I would like to know how to understand and address high school students when they come to be angry and literally screaming that he or she (the teacher) disrespected me. On questioning the teacher, they will say the student had an attitude, or they asked the student to put away the cell phone, and then all hell breaks loose. Why? Why do primarily black teens believe they should be respected first before they respect others?

Their always talking about respect becasue people like you refuse to give the respect that they might or might not deserve. Think they have a hell of a harder time becoming successful just because of their living situations, I mean you lived for some months you should really right.
My question to you is why should I respect people who live in suburban areas, because they valued education, I see a lot litter in suburban ares to, I know a lot of subburbian who get into figts over nothing, I know lots of suburbian people who neglect their children and think that buying them thinks shows that they love them.
Nice try but your prejudice really shows in this question, you thought you were slick but your not you just another piece of **** that does deserve any respect, from anyone, anywhere that you go.

this question can be addressed to w hites, asians, mexicans etc.... It's not just blacks who do these things. I hate questions that try to sound legit but I'm reading all through that bs. I was born and raised in the hood. Did I become a product of my environment?? NO!!! I had people in my corner who raised me and showed me how to be a young lady. How my education is important, how self worth is something that comes frome me and how respect is not automatic but is earned. So to me ytour question spews hatred and racism. Other races do this but you as well have been brainwashed to think only blacks act this way.
I have seen whites, asians etc.. who talk the same mess you are saying Only blacks talk. That is a crock of sh .it and you know it!!!!

I wouldn't know. Like you said not all black people are uneducated and I am a black young lady in college. But this is what happens when neighborhoods and communities that are poor are overlooked and are constantly being brought down and are the targets of "what makes America look bad". Maybe these people do respect themselves and are asking for help, but they get over looked by people who believe that they are superior, so it's hard for them to change their behavior when they are not given any help.

Since I do not define myself as "ghetto", I can not answer this from that prospective. However, I can say that respecting one self could be defined in many different ways. What your definition of respect may be significantly different from others.

That's what is so infuriating about it...I answered a question the other day mentioning the fact that if any student that is from a deprived upbringing is given opportunities from the community outside of their home and they choose to deny them (free education, big brothers programs, grants for college) then they have no one to blame. Respect has to be earned and this goes for everyone! The difference that I see between ghetto residents and white trash is that the white trash seem to be aware that they aren't living up to their potential and aren't contributing to their community (please correct me if I'm wrong)

You're generalising a bit. Plus I think many rappers are talking about "respect" in the gangster sense of the word.

I don't listen to rappers. I find them terribly boring. However I do volunteer work at a small center where a lot of those who come in are minorities of the type you mention; and, my take on their attitude is that they are all full of "their rights" but have no respect for the rights of others.
