A lot can depend on where you live.
I live on a lake just outside of town, I can see the the morning like about 530am, when my husband gets up to goto work.
We have a huge picture window that faces East, so once that sun starts to perk up the water starts to reflect and needless to say, I have to get up. (we don't have curtains on the windows, the view is to pretty).

On the equator dusk and dawn are much shorter than an hour. Where I live, on 53° N, they use to last almost two hours, and during the month of June they replace each other at midnight. At the poles they take several weeks.
