Yes there is. My mum is a mental health nurse and explianed this to me. Because the pull of the moons gravtational orbit on earths atmosphere affects the tides, and water levels of lakes river etc it also affects the water levels in our brains therefore some people can find they have a change of mood when there is a full moon, this is where the idea of wearwolfs came from too.

Eh, not really. There are tons of studies done on this subject, but they all conflict (to the point where they actually find opposite results on the same exact case). The only reasons that *might* play an effect, is when there is a full moon there is more light to kill someone by (but this doesn't make people *want* to kill more). Also, some have said the madness is because of the effects of the gravity of the moon on one side of the earth, and the sun on the other, but this is also a weak argument.

However, all real studies done with emergency room records, police reports, etc show absolutely no difference depending on the phases of the moon.

Guess where the word "lunatic" came from?

Edit: And John C has obviously never talked to an EMT or police officer, because my girlfriend is an EMT and my dad is a cop, and they have said nothing on this subject. Those who do are only seeing what they want to see.

Yes, the moons pull affects the tides, but it does not affect water alone. The reason the tides change are because its a huge mass thats *moveable*. We are a very small mass, so the moon does not affect us (you don't see swimming pools having tides), and the slightest bit of gravitational pull that might occur, wouldn't affect the "80% water in us," it would affect us as a bulk mass, because we, also, are moveable.

I think I've seen statistics in the past saying that this is true. Or maybe that it used to be true. I'm not going to take the time to look them up.

To me, it makes perfect sense that in the past there were higher incidents of crime during Full Moon. In the past, our ancestors used to plan nighttime travel or events for times near the Full Moon. This was simply because they didn't have cars with headlights, and they could see much better during a Full Moon. If you're outside a lot at night, then you know that you can see very far during a Full Moon, and you can't see much beside you during a New Moon.

Maybe this contributes to crime in some rural areas? It would be interesting to see if any supporting statistics were from large cities (with artificial light) or from rural areas.

To want to keep looking at the moon is not a illness but just an obsession. I have telescopes and do some night sky watching in my back garden and often looked at the moon at different phases and taking photos by means of astrophotography...and I have taken some good close ups. I hear some kids say "Theres that lunatic again looking at the moon".

Scientists have found that there is no physical/scientific proof that this occurs. However, there are a lot of people, including myself, that believe in this phenomen. The term " lunatic" comes from this belief. Lunatic refers to full moon madness. Not all people believe in this but,a majority of medical professionals, have noticed that patients' behavior changes when there is a full moon. This is just my observation.

No, there is not. Anecdotally, strange things happen when the moon is full. In actuality, though, according to police reports and hospital records, there is no increase in unusually incidents or accidents on full moon nights--even though police officers and medical workers themselves tend to believe that there is. It's just a popular myth with no proven basis in fact, even though such proof would be simplistic to obtain if it existed.

YES

Just ask any cop, EMT, Emergency Room worker, etc.

All the 'nuts' are out during the full moon.

Well the moons gravitational pull does affect water and we are 80% water, what do you think, i am sure it would affect us in some way.
