There was a show on Star Trek in which there was a planet that would have a simulated war between the countries.
There were no weapons used. Instead, a computer would simulate the the war, and let each side know how many casualties were had by either side.
The governments would then have a lottery, and the people whose numbers were called would all walk into a chamber; presumably, being gassed to death.
I believe that nature has a way to control the population of humans; there are so many hazards out there, what with aids, cancer, tsunamis, earthquakes, cyclones, floods and the like.
Plus, there are a lot of alcohol and drug related deaths.
Thus, the last thing we need are any more man-made devises, such as world war, to remedy the overpopulation issue. This upsets the balance of nature.

Exactly which population do you want to control? Already Europe, the US and Canada barely have a sustaining birthrate and need immigration to grow.
There are about 6 billion people on the planet. Double that of 40 years ago. But growth is slowing dramatically. 40 years from now there will be only a 50% increase to 9 billion. The growth rate is predicted to continue to decrease and the population will likley start to decline after a peak of 10 billion - some time after 2050.

Considering that two countries comprise nearly 40% of the world's population, and that all of the projected growth in population is going to come from the Third World in the next 50 years, exactly who do you want to go to war with? China? India? Indonesia?

Seriously? You think the US is over populated so we should place an extra tax on children? Worldwide there is a population problem but it is more in where the population is growing not that it is growing too much. We have plenty of room on this planet for more people and the resources for them are available, we need to figure out how to better ensure that those resources are better used in poor parts of the world.
