In the past, I was always partial to non fiction from biographies and memoirs to books on writing, art, poetry, culture, etc.
While I have always loved fiction, this summer I got into "listening" the audiobooks and am having a blast. (I have been sick and cannot hold a book for long periods of time.)
I find listening to books to be a pleasurable experience because they force me to lie back, close my eyes and really absorb the stories. I think I am becoming a better writer as a result.
Last month I read: The Goddess Rules, Everyone Worth Knowing, Curiousity Killed the Cat Sitter, Innocent as Sin, and The Other Side of the Story.
Of course, I couldn't really abandon non fiction, so I also read: The Art of Happiness, The Secret, and Three Cups of Tea.
I always have a stack of hard copy books by the side of my bed and on my side tables. At the moment I have a list of ten audiobooks I already own to begin reading.
Today, I'll begin a book on John Lennon to be followed by John Grisham's The Broker.

I like to try and read all books, I guess my preferences are books that you can learn from, fantasies, biogrophies, some autobiogrophies, some to-do books, itty bitty romance novels (not too mushy), but in all I guess I like all kinds of books, just depends if I like the way the author writes the story. For instance, I love Harry Potter books, and I have read them all, but I can't get into Lord of the Rings. I have tried to read the first book 7 time, but I could only force myself to read to page 3. Reading is very important to me, you can learn so much and enhance your imagination. I believe that knowledge is the basic foundation of everything. How can you do something right if you don't know anything about it? I only hope that my love for books have been passed down to my children. My daughter, Anaya (2 yo.) loves to try to read to me, but my son, Ayden (6 1/2mths) isn't old enough to even realize what a book is. I just want my kids to be able to look in a book and see what I see. I take care of my books cause they mean everything to me. It might sound corny or cliche, but really, books CAN really take you places, far off lands, and it can teach you a whole lot.

Reading is really important to me - I've learnt so much through books (not just school books). I have about 5000 books at home, mainly fiction , but I also like factual books on philosophy and different religions.
I suppose part of the reason I like to read is escapism - I often work with special needs children, and reading is a way to unwind from the day.
Luckily one of my children has picked up the reading habit, so I have someone to browse the bookshops with!
Happy reading!!

I love reading and it is an important part of my life. I learned to read at an early age and have never stopped!
I have a chronic health problems that, at times, limits my ability to be active. When I cannot be active, reading is a great hobby because it keeps my mind active. Even reading fiction books I learn new thing (i.e. I have learned by reading novels by English authors the differences between English and American culture.)
I read some general fiction (i.e. The Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edward), some mysteries and suspense and a little non-fiction (i.e. Living History by Hillary Clinton).

I love fantasy/action/adventure books like Lord of the Rings.
Reading is important to me because I feel very limited in this world. This world to me is so boring. With the types of books I read, I can immerse myself into a fantasy world where the concept of 'impossible' is not a problem. Anything can happen, therefore it brightens my imagination. When I read books, such as LOTR, I can picture myself in the midst of the action, and just get lost in an entirely amazing place of imagination. Reading is important to me because it allows me to escape the everyday.

I like reading romance novels, I don't know why.
Reading is important to me, because when I was younger, I liked having friends, however I liked to be by myself. When I read, I am still by myself, but I form friends even though I could never speak with them, I feel close to people who aren't real.

I like to read all kinds of books because if the author is good at their craft, they can take you with them to all these places that you've never been to before. And if your having a really bad day, they can take you away from it and into someplace else, away from whatever is bothering you at the moment.
Plus, its soothing to the soul, at least for me it is.
