I don't understand it. If I do something stupid then someone says that surely if I had a brain I wouldn't be dangerous as I wouldn't do the stupid thing because I would have a brain.

Why would I be dangerous? What has danger got to do with brains or stupidity?

Please can someone explain this to me?

Well, it's often said that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing....

I'm going to take a shot at this:

I'm guessing it means; your intention to do something beyond your capabilities makes you a dangerous person.

You've bitten off more than you can chew and should have known better.

Not only are your capabilities for the task at hand - shambolic (you haven't got a brain) but also your judgement (if you had a brain your poor judgement would make you dangerous).

It's an efficient way of insulting someone twice with one criticism.

Of course I could be completely wrong ;)

If you had a brain you would be dangerous - you must have done something a bit silly that didnt work properly or was just a bit dangerous,

If you had a brain you would have thought it through and done the same thing with greater success, and more dangerously

I think it means that it's a good job you are not too bright as your ideas could be dangerous to others if put into practice. I don't mean YOU but you in the general sense.

They really mean that you are rather clever usually and a brain would make you so clever you would outwit everyone you know. I made that upBTW. My husband always says that i have a lot of knowledge but no common sense also hesays he would not trust me with an empty pram. Moi ?

The implication is that you act on impulse or instinct, without thinking of the consequences, but if you were cleverer - had a brain - you would still do these dumb things, but would think of reasons or explanations why you did them, rather than learn from your mistakes.

I think it relates to the fact that if you had a brain then you could put some of your daft ideas into practice. Soory not meaning you, meaning anyone.

It means a person is so stupid when doing stupid things that they could endanger themselves
If they had a brain they would endanger other people as well as themselves

My husband says this to me all the time! I think it means that I cause so much "trouble" without meaning to, that if I were a little smarter, I could probably do a lot more damage-like plot his death!
for example, say I accidentally poisoned him, and he nearly died- he might say, well, she's too dumb to give me enough to kill me. like, if I really wanted him dead, I'm too scatterbrained to pull it off, so thank goodness for him I'm not smart enough, y'know?

Is that a good example?
I hope so!

it basically means that if you were intelligent you would be capable of thinking about things that would allow you to be dangerous e.g. make a bomb, plot a murder, rob a bank, fire a gun ect....its more to do with being a danger to yourself rather that other people. hope this helps
