I have a lot of pakistani friends, all speak english and stuff, but i hate the way our country adapts to them, like i went to a school that my cousin goes to, and all the signs and stuff are translated into punjabi, if they come here i believe they should get used to the english way of life, because us adapting to them, does not seem to do them any good, aswell as us. England is england, i mean next they will be changing it to englastan, i am not racist and have no problem with foreigners, but people should just let them adapt to us.

Hi Hii...
When in Rome etc. I agree with Myleen Klass on this one, if you live in another country then it is your duty to learn the language and, translating signs, official forms and the like does you no good in the long run. I'm not saying that they should not use their mother tongue as they need to keep it alive and also to converse with relatives that may live in their country of origin, but if you don't have any impetus to learn the language of your adopted country then how can you have any hope of being able to participate in a broader society.
This is one of the causes of animosity from the native populace and breeds xenophobia. That can only end in ghettoised communities and violence.

Are you second generation Engastani yourself? Actually the East has been having a wonderful affect on Western cowboy culture for decades now. The whole world is coming together on a basic level that is like the sea rising, not so noticeable, but with incredible potential, like what happens when it hits the shore. A lot of change coming up and how good or bad it is depends on how well we adapt. We can ride the waves and have fun surfing or be dragged under and scraped along the bottom. for 64 free ebooks and an introduction to the mind shift occurring, check out shiftreport.org and trans4mind.com

I think you will find that most people will agree with you. I have no problem with foreigners coming to live in England, as long as they meet our requirements for integration. The Americans have the right idea making all wanna be citizens take the citizens test. anyone wanting to come to this country should have to learn about our history, customs and laws, before being released to live here. why are we surrounded by immigrants that have no knowledge of the English language, never mind our history. the laws on immigration are to weak, we need to get stronger legislation, ones that stop the revolving door policies we have now. I am English FIRST, then British second, I love my Country and my heritage, yes we are a multi-cultural society and have been since the invasion of the Saxons in the 6THC, but we have to all live together under one system of rules and the immigrants seem to be able to use racist discrimination to write their own rules in our country. I live in, Lancashire, England, within a large community of immigrants and their descendants, descendants that still class themselves as foreigners, while they take advantage of the benefits of our generosity and our laws of freedom of which, some of them take advantage of, and attack the very system that protects them

can you not see making signs in their previous language as an aid to adapting, as part of a good start to a warm welcome?, Aren't the people you speak of members of our community don't we look after our community, we should be helpful to a new member of our culture who just got here and needs help with the language. you are assuming they won't try - some of the older ones won't learn english but hey 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks'
i have to disagree with the fact that you say you are not racist or have no problem with foreigners i notice from your edit this accusation is taken seriously by you and is not liked by you let me try my best to explain why i would say what i say i do not mean to offend you just force you to reassess! - While not an active racist as you don't have a problem with your friends or family - you are a passive racist subject to intrinsic social patterns giving you a problem with foreigners, this is the endemic form of passive racism: liking Pakistani's you know yet still finding something bad to say broadside- passing off your opinion as concern for our community when it is an attack on our community - do you see that you could be interpreted as saying you don't like the fact that our system is nice to newcomers.
Openness to all and the resulting diversifying of our culture is a part of what makes Britain great today!

Quite right you are!
Ever heard of the saying "when in rome do as romans do"? This is fair enough. But the older you are the harder it is to learn a new language. Whilst my grandparents settled in Africa, they became fluent in Swahili, when they came to London, they can get by with their English, but the older you are the less easy it is to learn.
I've been taught to speak Gujju so when we go to India, I can at least communicate. Okay, may be I can't speak 8 languages like the people there, but I can get by knowing one.

So...what's wrong with that?
I'm sure if you go to Pakistan you will find signs of people there having to adapt to English too.
In-fact; all over the world people are having to adapt to English.
How many English people go to other countries and try to learn the language?

Why does it bother you if you claim you are not a racist.Me thinks perhaps you are.A closet one at that. You are also uneducated about the fact that you seem to think all diverse ethnicity groups must be foreigners. So none of them were born here then?People like you continually make the big bold "I am not a racist"statement then go on and make racist comments.Like i said...uneducated.

ur right, if I went to India or whatever, I'd like to think I'd learn some of the language. If I was to settle there then I should become fluent or at least competent in the speach.

if you're not racist then you shouldn't worry so much about a school with punjabi signs...
amof, you should be happy about it... that's cosmopolitism... in 2 or 3 millienia we'll be all just one country... this kind of thing helps moving forward faster
