5 adults need to get to Brighton. The argument is whether we should hire a car or take 2 cars. The hire car would be a renault grand scenic and the other 2 cars are Ford Fiesta 1.2 and Ford Focus 1.6. The 3 of the 5 adults have a combined weight of 60 stones so we're not talking small kids here.

2 issues:
1) will the Scenic fit 5 adults comfortably (bearing in mind their fat backsides)?
2) is it actually cheaper to hire a car rather than take your own car? Hire car is £122 for 3 days plus petrol/diesel. Own vehicles just need petrol.

So, which is the best solution?

We don't know where you are travelling from, so estimating fuel costs isn't possible. Assume 10 miles per litre of fuel for the Fiesta, and 8 for the Focus (assuming you can drive in an economic fashion). Assume 7.5 miles per litre for a petrol Grand Scénic, and 11 miles per litre for a diesel Grand Scénic.

The second row of the Grand Scénic will take three adults in relative comfort, but probably not the three largest.

Have you got free parking arranged in Brighton?
If not, you'll have to factor in the cost of parking an additional car.

I would take 2 cars for the comfort, its a good trip, and you dont want to be craped or the car to break down because of weight! Remember you have luggage 2!! Im goin 2 devon for a week soon and there is 8 adults and 4 children! we are taking 4 cars, 2 adults in each!

Take the cars, as the hire charges would be a lot more than the petrol costs of two cars and you still have to fuel up the hire car. No contest.

The scenic will take 5 without a problem, it will always be cheaper to use your own car, even if you take two cars, better flexibility too in case you need to split up

In the scenic, plenty of drivers, more company, its hired so any mechanical problems are covered, the price of £24.40 each is chicken feed.
Have a great laugh....

i would pick the hire car.that price can't be beaten! because if you bring your own cars-you'll be paying for twice the petrol price.
