When I switch on my laptop, the comment from the com is that my laptop does not have a operating system (I believe something has gone wrong with my OS). Hence, I could not enter Windows.

CHECK TO SEE IF ITS SET AS A MASTER OR SLAVE IN THE CMOS. IF ITS NOT SET UP THERE AS THE FIRST DRIVE TO BOOT UP IT WOULD SAY NO OS FOUND.

What you can do is go to best buy or frys and get an adapter that will allow you to put a laptop drive in a desktop. Open your desktop and remove the wires from the CD rom and attach them to the laptop hard drive and then start it up. Go to My computer and you will see the hard drive in there and you just open it up, you might need to go to search and type in JPEG of BITMAP and it will show you all the pictures in your drives. Hope this helps

cannot start or switch on
remove the hard drive and set it up as a slave on another computer you will the be able to access your data if the drive is not faulty
it then might be possible to put the drive back format it and start a fresh installation on the laptop be lucky

Do you have your XP install boot CD?
Boot from the CD, hit "R" for repair, "1" for C:\Windows, and you should end up at a command prompt. Type "CHKDSK /R" and wait 45-60 min for it to do its thing. 9 times out of 10 I have repaired systems like this.

be a bit more specific. computers can crash in thousands of ways and most of them are not fatal to data stored on their hard drives, except the case in which ur hdd got busted by dropping the laptop by accident. as i said, i need more details of the crash.

remove the hard drive, take it with you to compusa, ask a salesperson for a external usb Hard drive enclosure, install hard drive into it and connect it to a working computer, The computer should see all the data if the hard drive is ok. if not, you have to send it out to a recovery service... goodluck
