And as for people calling him fat?? I can't believe how rude some people are!

Some children do grow rapidly and there could be a genetical reason for his rapid growth. Im sorry to say if he is 8.4 kilos at 5mths old there maybe cause for concern. Is his whole body in perportion with the rest of his body? All babies have baby fat and roles, thats a healthy and normal way for a little child to survive when they become sick. What concerns me, is you say he eats less then what he should and is of that weight range. Was your doctor concerned about this? My son was born 8 pound 13 and grew to be a big boy, but didnt get to the 8 kilo mark until he was much older. But all babies are different.
Honestly if he is happy and there are no health problems who cares what other people think. All babies are different.
Good Luck

My daughter was very long and normal weight after being born a little fattie and I would just hate it when someone would call her skinny. She wasnt at all but it made me feel bad, as if I couldnt feed her enough! Why people dont realise their comments are insensitive is beyond me.
I remember a friend's little girl being so fat as a newborn we had trouble counting all her fat rolls. It was always a joke, but I hope she never felt bad about it. I really can't imagine anyone saying something about your boy's weight and mean something negative by it. Most people love fat babies (so I always felt them picking on my daughter!).
At 22mths my daughter is now over 90% in height and just under that in weight. No one says anything other than how beautiful she is so that should give you a little comfort that very quickly you wont have to worry about comments anymore. Your baby is beautiful, and no matter what anyone else says will change that.

I was 9lb 12 and 3/4 when I was born way back in 1980, and 2 foot long at birth. I've ended up 6 foot 1 tall now.
People come in all shapes & sizes, ignore those small-minded people who have called him "fat" - so long as he's a healthy, happy baby that's all that matters!

As long as he isn't jumping up on the percentile charts I wouldn't worry. Saying he is 90% bigger than other children is really lame, and Dr should be saying this to you, as this isn't what the percentile charts are for.
I think of children as Spaghetti and meat balls, they thin out a plump up quite a few times over the years. This is normal.
Don't worry and tell the people who are calling your son fat, that he is healthy!

My son was exactly the same, and it hurt when people would laugh and say "look at you fatty". He has always been, bigger, taller and heavier than other kids his age, but strangely now, at 10, he isn't fat, but he looks much more grown up. More like 12. both myself and his dad are not big people, but my brothers are, and he seems to have taken after them, both being over 6 foot and quite strong and broad. perhaps your siblings are the same?
Your son is health and happy and just too cute for words.

He is perfect for his birth weight! They are supposed to double their birth weight at 4 months. Now that he's five months, he's a little bigger than double. He's progressing PERFECTLY!
If it makes you feel any better, my son 5 months and is off the chart.
21 lb 3 oz.
BUt you have to take length into consideration. Mine looks a little chunky but he's mostly just tall. 27 in.

Tell them to mind their own business. My son was off the chart on height and in the 98th % for weight until he was a year and he's still off the chart for height but in the 80th for weight (19 mos old). As long as you're not overfeeding him, he's fine. When he starts crawling and walking, the baby fat will start to come off. I didn't realize how chunky my son was until now when I look at older pics but he is thin now and TALL!

My son was on the 90th percentile until he was 9 months old then he leveled off and now he is on the 40th at the age of 2 years. When people said "oh hes soooo BIG" I just said no, he healthy. It seemed to work.

Don't worry what peopple say. I am a baby photographer and I see chunky babies all the time. I think I see more chunky ones than non. but then I see som of them every 3 months and by the time they are 1 they even out. SO don't listen to them. CHunky babies are cuter anyways. They are just jealous
