when it's that time of the month for me... my stomach seems to play up ( i suffer with acid reflux) and i think it plays up because i am sensitive to hormone changes. does anyone else get like this a week before they're due? sometimes i come down with a cold or even a cold sore and generally feel "unwell" i am 29 yrs old so i've my period for many yrs since i was 12 and have lived like this for all this time. i was wondering what might be done about this? i don't want to take birth control though because i've tried it and i didn't like it.

Cold sores/fever blisters commonly occur during the time of the month, type it in search it will come up. I had them often (none of the cold sore lip treatments work) I started taking tylenol once a night during my period. I often feel very weak and have horrible leg, hip, abdominal pain. Do you take a multivitamin? You need some iron and calcium, helped me alot. Ask your gyno too =)

Usually, two weeks before your period is due, your immune system is open to all sorts of viruses, another perk for the female gender lol.

Spots, cold sores, colds etc are all the normal occurrences before the dreaded week, but you can be open to many more, you can also get thrush, usually this occurs around 3/4 days before you are due, and you just get the caniston cream for that.

There are many different types of birth control, I have tried about 6 and finally found one that my body doesn't reject, I would maybe have a word with your doctor and explain to him/her that you need help with your periods but need an alternative to birth control.

I have also suffered with my periods since the age of 12 and passed out a few times because of it, we have to endure all this rubbish just for the joy of parenting, although periods don't seem to matter when they place a little piece of heaven on your stomach. We cope with the pain and that's why we are the stronger race, if men had to go through this, civilisation would come to an abrupt halt lol ;0)

It definitely sounds like your body is having issues with the hormones, almost like it's rejecting your cycle. I've heard of acid reflux, fatigue, body aches/ cramps, bloating/ irregularity, nausea/ upset stomach, and headaches, but not a cold or someone feeling excessively like crap...

I would recommend going to your doctor and discussing this with him. Perhaps there is a medication that is not birth control related that will offer some relief during your cycle and make your body not as sensitive to the hormones it produces during that time.

I get..erm...looser bowel movements! Strange but true. I tend to feel shaky and 'nervy'. Sometimes I wonder if I really should be driving during my time of the month! (I hope no men read this lol). I feel unable to cope with even small things. I don't know if the pill helps anyway.. I Have used the pill on and off over the years and never felt a difference. I have heard there are supplements you can take. I found this which might be useful:

Right before my period I bruise, get cuts more easily, get severe haedaches, either constipation or diarhea, get cold sores on various parts of my body, tender nipples, insomnia, and muscle spasms.

I'm 19 y/o and I've had my period since I was 13 and a half. I've been told to just wait it out, take tylenol or midol and place a hot towel where ever cold sores appear. Also iron tablets work wonders because they build up your immune system.

Isn't being a woman lovely.

Yep, I tend to eat a lot more, and then I feel like crap, get lots of pain in my abdomen, and was told by my GP and by a GYN doc, basically, tough, take some birth control or suffer. To be fair, I was given some pills which I take when I ovulate and during my period which has helped with the bleeding and the pain, but still not one of those girls who never notices when she has her period.

I usually feel unwell before my period as well. It has been like that for me since I also started my cycle when I was 12. I usually work out as well, and watch what I eat. Make sure you also have a normal sleep cycle, because I found that when I was tired, it was worse.

Yes, I have had stomach upset before my period before but it turned out it was related to a medical problem called endometriosis.

I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation to see what they think is going on.

You know?
The modern trend is to take capsules that actually stops one from ovulating altogether...
Just imagine...
No monthly periods, no fuss, no pain, no discomfort, just your good old self...
Go see a gynie about this
