Usually it is the loser who sees the winner as lucky. In other words, it's sour grapes, plain and simple. Of course, some goals seem less a matter of skill and have a degree of luck in them but in the long run. all teams are equal in this regard. What can seem lucky is a goal like the one last night ( June 2) by Hall that was really badly cleared by the Red Wing onto the Penguin's skate. Pure luck? Of course, not! The RedWings were under the kind of pressure where a goal like that is more likely to happen. So a team that is really hustling creates chances and therefore a higher probability that some will pay off even by seeming accident. It's a pretty common human failing to talk about lucky streaks and pure chance without seeing that much more is involved.

In college I had one. It was the only one I used for quizzes and tests and finals. One time I got into the classroom for a final, found I didn't have my pen, and had to excuse myself to walk across campus and get it where it had fallen on the seat of my car. The professor was completely perplexed, as he offered me one when I told him I had forgotten mine. I ended up doing really well on the final, and when I had him the following term, he liked to tease me about stealing it from me, as he published fairly regularly, and always wrote things out in longhand first. He said if I would just give him my pen, maybe he would become famous in his field.
I also had one when I worked. I had my name on it, and no one was allowed to use it. It was a fairly inexpensive pen, but it was my pen, and it was refillable, and no one dared to borrow it. It just felt right in my hand.
Now I just keep a large stock of my favorite type of pen on hand. I do still have some lucky ones, but I rarely use them, other than letter writing, as they are fountain pens. Fountain pens aren't the best for doing things like filling in forms or addressing envelopes, so I leave that grunt work to the other pens: Sharpie Ultra Fine Point Permanent Markers. I will write with something else in a pinch, but those Sharpies are a delight.

No. I used to have a special pen for writing letters but with the advent of computers and e-mails it's a rarety to write a letter nowadays.

I live with a teen and a pre-teen. A "lucky pen" is one that can be found in a pinch.
