Although he may never have performed here he did stop off at Prestwick Airport near Troon in Scotland to change planes.

Elvis never performed anywhere outside US territories; the most exotic place he got to stage a paying gig was Hawaii. In other words it wasn't anything to do with the UK, the aversion to foreign shows was a deliberate decision of his manager, "Colonel" Tom Parker. Parker was an extremely dodgy charlatan who got lucky when he stumbled upon a young Elvis and bought out his contract from Sam Phillips at Sun Records. Parker exploited Elvis for every cent, guided his career to a "safe" but often boring image, a crooner singing bland material - and don't forget all those woeful (but lucrative) films. You would have thought he would have bit the hand off promoters making unending multi-million dollar offers of European or Japanese tours; these would have been unbelievably lucrative for both Elvis and Parker (who took 50% of Elvis's earnings after all the Colonel's "expenses" had been deducted, plus 100% of all merchandising, not to mention undeclared kickbacks from promoters). However, the Colonel had a serious problem: He couldn't get a US passport. Opinions differ as to why, he was an illegal alien (from the Netherlands) but marriage to an American and US military service should have overcome that. More likely he was frightened his real identity would be exposed, revealing a serious felony from which he had eluded justice. Whatever the case, the decision for Elvis to only perform on US territory was Parker's and he had his own nefarious reasons for keeping it that way.

Believe it or not he had more gigs set up by his manager, the infamous Col. Parker, from making dumb movies and big tv dates, and concerts and radio even. He toured he did so much that he had no time and it was Col. Parker who ran hat railroad. If you recall Elvis eventually started using speed to stay awake and perform. He was no drinker or drugger. He was Christian and worshipped his mama. However, she told him to let Col. Parket run business, Elvis had no interest in business. He was totally obsessed with being on stage and being the greatest performer in the world. and he did it. He really seemed blessed because except of lack of education he was blessed genetically. He tried to keep up the pace until he died, so they say. Actually, he lives in Tibet in a Buddhist monestary and meditates and and rests from all he years of abuse.

I read up a lot on Elvis when I was younger and there are a few theories on this. One is that his manager (Col Tom Parker) didn't have a passport to travel as he was an illegal immigrant.... others say that Col Tom thought that there was more money to be made in the US so stayed there! I also read that they were planning a UK tour at the time he died.

If his Manager left the country he would not of been let back in, as Elvis was his Golden Egg so to speak he could not let that happen. Its a real shame as im sure everyone would of loved to have seen Elvis live over here!!

Colnel (cant spell it!) Parker was an idiot and a greedy mofo, when Elvis died he spent all his days gambling away a fortune without even caring. i doubt he even cared for Elvis.

Anyway there ya go. Hope this helps.

Did you know that the only time Elvis set foot in the UK was when he was in the army and changing planes at the airport?

Elvis has left the terminal.

It's clear why... Because this was the home of the Beatles, who were and will always be the real KINGS of rock & Roll. Several documentaries on Elvis quote Elvis saying that he was afraid of the Beatles.

Of course I accept the importance of Elvis in the world of rock&roll but he is only about a half a dozen songs. Every time we hear a song of Elvis it is only one of small hand full of songs. The Beatles on the other hand created hit after hit after hit after hit of revolutionary, exciting, beautiful, you name it, music.

He wasn't allowed to come to the UK because he manager, was Dutch and living illegally in the USA; therefore if he'd ever left America he wouldn't have been allowed to return. So his manager wouldn't let Elvis tour outside the USA.
