I have been to las vegas many many times. The area where you are staying (near the Bellagio at the four corners or Flamingo Road) is one of the safest places in america, trust me on this one. You have picked a wonderful area to nightlife, Caesars Palace (1 minute walk), Mirage (5 minutes walk), Planet Hollywood (2 minute walk), Treasure Island (7 minutes walk), Paris (1 minute walk), Flamingo (1 minute walk), Venetian (5 minutes walk) all have amazing nightlife options. Bellagio has a wealth of top bars and a cool nightclub even if you decide to stay in the hotel.
After 10pm there are literally thousands of people (tourists) walking on the sidewalk outside the Bellagio. The bellagio fountain show doesn't finish till 12am, Mirage volcano 12am, Wynn lake of dreams 12am. Then the clubs open and there is a mass of people everywhere, its an amazing sight to behold. That part of the strip is packed at 3am, never mind 10pm.
The las vegas strip from Mandalay Bay in the south to the Wynn hotel in the north is very safe. It gets a bit more seedy north of the Wynn hotel (but not really dangerous).
I would not advise to walk north of the Stratosphere hotel as that area is not good. 2 blocks east of the fremont street experience downtown is filled with homeless, hookers and addicts. This area is about 5 miles from the bellagio hotel though and i doubt you would be interested if you are staying in the bellagio.
the area in Las vegas where you are staying is probably 10 times safer than your home town and your boyfriend will realise how silly he was once he arrives in this amazing town. You guys will be back in your room by about 4-5am i predict.
Here are nightlife options very very close to Bellagio:
Bellagio Hotel: 1. Light nightclub, 2. Baccarat bar
Flamingo hotel: 1.Margaritaville, 2.The Island Bar
Bills Gambling Hall and Saloon: 1.Drais After hours
Paris Hotel: 1.Risque
Caesars Palace: 1.Pure, 2.Shadow, 3. Cleopatra's Barge
Mirage: 1. Jet nightclub, 2. Revolution Lounge, 3. Japonais
Venetian hotel: 1. Tao, 2. V bar
Treasure Island: 1.Tangerine, 2.Mist, 3. Kahunaville
ALSO DO NOT MISS ANY OF THESE FANTASTIC PLACES:
1) Mix lounge on the 60th floor of TheHotel at Mandalay Bay (its nothing short of amazing),
2) Voodoo Lounge on the roof (59th floor) of Rio Hotel (free shuttle bus from Caesars Palace), and
3) Ghostbar on the roof of Palms Hotel (which is across the road from the Rio hotel)

You can walk from Mirage to Stratosphere, it's about 2 miles; but the area past Sahara isn't safe. It's about 4 blocks, between the Bonanza gift shop and Stratosphere, where you'll likely run into panhandlers and other tough characters. I've walked to Stratosphere from the strip about a dozen times. The area north of Fashion Show Mall is also a bit less safe since all those casinos were demolished (Frontier, Westward Ho, Stardust), there are a lot of empty lots. However, as long as you stay on the Las Vegas Blvd. sidewalk, there is always traffic going by and no one is going to try anything with all those witnesses. If you're accustomed to urban areas you won't feel too uncomfortable. Anyway, the Las Vegas Strip is very safe. In addition to the local police (Metro) every casino has all kinds of undercover security wandering around. You'll be fine between Mandalay Bay and Wynn/Encore. The north end of the strip feels less safe.

Las Vegas is the absolute most exciting and engaging city on the planet and with hotelbye you will see out more. Nowhere else on the planet you will discover a city that's most of the vacation amenities that only a total resort destination will offer: lavish casino hotels, fine food, great stay amusement and state-of-the artwork meeting and industry display facilities. Las Vegas is surely a magnificent town and exactly what you'd assume from the world-class city, and more, is the following for the vacation pleasure. One of many areas you must visit in Las Vegas may be the Fremont Street, a pedestrian place with all sorts of special sites.

Much of the street crime takes place far away from the Strip resorts (especially Downtown and North Las Vegas). Lets just put it this way... you're actually much safer going out at night on the Strip than on the streets of Seattle, San Francisco, or Los Angeles. That's because the casino resorts in Vegas are monitored by CCTV and personnel 24 hours a day.
A majority of the bars / clubs are actually inside the casinos as well. So, you don't have to go very far. As always, there is a legion of private security around to ensure the safety of patrons. The police are also omnipresent. I've always felt perfectly safe going out for a drink, whether it's 2 PM or 2 AM.
And you're staying in the classy Bellagio for heaven's sake. They don't even allow teenagers to wander around on their own. There's absolutely no reason to worry.

You are doing yourself a GREAT diservice if you stay in your hotel while in Vegas. Your boyfriend needs to be a man. This city wakes up at 10 pm. The nightlife is wonderful, and if you miss it on purpose, you might as well just dig a hole and crawl in. There are a lot of 'seedy' types in Vegas, but if you can't deal with that type of person, you really have no bussiness being in Vegas to begin with.
