In my experience, although most such start out with high ideals, they quickly descend into chaos as people who have no funds and no 'work ethic' are allowed to join in on an 'equal' basis to those who have worked for years to make it a success ...

The only type that seems to keep going are those where the existing owners demand that any others who wish to join purchase a 'part share' in the commune (I've heard of one in Scotland where the minimum is £25,000 - which is then used to purchase the material needed to build you a house) -

Sometimes 'candidates' are allowed to set-up tent on the land but since they have no voting rights they can be asked to leave by the majority vote of the 'share holders' at any time ..

That's cute, but communes do not last for very long and it costs more then you think, and i imagine the government will not make it very easy, heaven forbid you shouldn't have any tax of bills to pay, they want everyone to be eco-friendly when they are not themselves and yet not if it costs them money. Idiots. I've got a bucket of 2 pences waiting ot be thrown at the lot of them, check out my profile to understand what I mean.

Cheap farms/land? Got to be kidding me....I want to go back to wales, but i need a cool 1/2 mill to get anything! Again, forcing locals out of the property market...
