if a players still has a few years left on his contract, does the club have to compensate him for any of the remaining years? are there any restrictions on cutting a player who's too injured to play, even if those injuries occurred during service to the club?

it depends on the contract, usually big name players get some kind of compensation, or they are traded and another teams inherits their contract, usually getting cut voids the contract though because they didnt make the team

There are no guaranteed contracts in the NFL. IF you are cut from a team your contract is voided. The only money the player would be entitled to would be 'signing bonus' money. Some teams would give that all up front. Some teams spread the signing bonus cash out over the length of the contract. So if you signed a 5 year deal worth $50 million and got a $5 million signing bonus ($1 million per year), your $50 million contract is voided but the team would still either have to payout the remaining signing bonus you have not received or they could still pay you that $1 million per year until the $5 million is reached.

it all depend when they are cuts. there are deadlines, and if they past then there is some form of compensation. If another team sign them, then they might have to pick up the contract. It really depend on the contract. for that reason, they always want guarantee money upfront. that the reason why so many players hold out
