November for Hokkaido, Japan is too early. My family, we usually go to Hokkaido for the winter also. We usually go around the end of December to Rusutsu Resort in Hokkaido. By that time the snow is just falling and the resorts are starting to run all lifts and runs. Rusutsu is a resort that is has everything contained within the resort. There is no need to travel outside for anything. We usually stay at the tower hotel because the building is newer and the suites are 2 floors. I have 2 boys, ages 5&8, and they love it. There is a kids play snow area and lots of open areas for the kids to play in. Difficulty wise, I have found that black diamond runs in Japan are overrated and not as difficult as black diamond runs in North America. Rusutsu has limited night skiing. We usually book our tours through the local Odakyuu or travel agencies in Shinjuku.

The Hachimantai resort in Iwate might be open by late November. Hachimantai prides itself on being one of the first to open every season, but November is still early even at higher altitudes.
