It's a girl's name...
Aashini (pronounced - Asha-nee)

What do you think? It's a Hindi name... I live in India... but I want it to be easy for westerners to say... but I've lived here for so long it's hard to know if it's easy for Americans or others to say... :) Thanks!

I think it is a beautiful name, now that I know how it's pronounced but I would have pronounced it wrong! I think it's unique but not one of those crazy off the wall names, very cute! I would consider a different spelling if you plan on using it for a first name because honestly she will spend the rest of her life correcting people! You could always use it for a middle name because it isn't written as much and when she tells people her name their first reaction to it would be that it's beautiful as opposed to how do you pronounce it!?!

I think that Aashini is a wonderful name, but it may be a little confusing if you were to ever live in America. Just imagine how teachers, bosses, etc. will butcher the name becuase it is not pronounced the way it is spelt. Perhaps you could alter the spelling. However, everyone that knows your daughter well will know how to pronounce it and that is all that really matters.

I love the name, but I would not know how to pronounce it properly with out having heard it first. I thought it would be pronounced Ashee-nee. I still like the name , but you will have to tell people how to say it all of the time.

When I first read it, I thought it was pronounced "Ah-shee-nee," just to give you my first impression of it. To warn you, many Americans mispronounce foreign names, as simple as many are. For instance, KAWAKAMI: Now, you think that a person who's learned the alphabet would read it as "KA-WA-KA-MI" but I've heard "Kamakazi" and "Kawasaki." If you want the name to be pronounced the way you want it, I suggest spelling it as "Ashani" or "Ashanee." I know you shouldn't have to compromise your culture, but for the sake of your child and your original intentions, you may have to spell it differently. Overall, it is a beautiful name :)

It's very pretty and easy to pronounce once you tell people, but it will be difficult to pronounce just by looking at it. Who cares though if you like it? :)
