The last time I bought a desktop pc, only needed to know the most current version of pentium. I go to research now, theres not a single description including the word perntium, I am hit with terminology I don't recognize, options I can't tell if I need , bytes have become gigs HELP!!! I am on a budget and just want a pc thats funtional. What the heck does dual core mean and do I need it? If one doesn't choose dual core, what does one choose instead? What size HD? How much RAM? Anyone with advice on the best computer for the best price, and the specs. I should look for when buying would be much appreciated.

You could opt for a cheap Sempron 3200+ for a start and just upgrade to dual core later.

it all depends on what you want to use the comp for
if you just want to use the net and basic stuff any deal will do you

if you want to game or use heaps of resource hungry software go for dual core with as much RAM as you can get eg.1GB plus

as for the hard drive bigger is better if you keep songs or movies on your comp. i dont use less than a 250gig hard drive

hope that helps
