Best receiving corps in the NFL (Roy Williams, Mike Furrey, Calvin Johnson, Shaun McDonald)
Best defensive tackle combo in the NFL (Cory Redding, Shaun Rogers)
Best special teams unit in the NFL (Jason Hanson, Nick Harris, Eddie Drummond)
Best coaching staff in the NFL (Rod Marinelli, Mike Martz, Joe Barry)
Most underrated QB in the NFL (Jon Kitna)
Most underrated LB in the NFL (Ernie Sims)
Also the offensive line is much improved with the additions of George Foster and Edwin Mulitalo and with Damien Woody 50 pounds lighter than last year.
Calvin Johnson WILL make a big difference. Last year teams just doubled Williams and Furrey because they had no one else to throw to. They now have Calvin Johnson who is more talented than either of them plus they added Shaun McDonald. And Dan Cambell is one of the best blocking tight ends in the league.
They'll win at least 9 games and will be headed to the playoffs and next year they'll win the Super Bowl.
Go Lions, bitches!

Rogers, Williams, Williams, now Johnson. I think Millen needs one or 2 more receivers in the next couple of drafts 2 win the super bowl. No, but for real Johnson will be good 4 years, but he will be the only bright star on his team for probably his entire career. Milllen has set the franchise up 2 fail. Kitna, and bell would be a force 2 be reckoned with if they had an O-line in front of them. The D lost Bly, and still have to play my bears twice. On top of these issues Kitna and Furrey decide to come out and run there mouths giving teams that they are facing bulletin board material. Out of there schedule I give them wins against Oakland, and one against both Green bay and Minnesota, It's a coin toss to see who will win the Arizona game, and the Washington game. So at best I see the Motown losers going 5 and 11.

Is that sarcasm I detect? :p
I swear that Matt Millen must have blackmail photos of the entire executive board at GM or something, because there must be some reason why he still has a job after all these years.
I mean really, how hard can his job be? I can see the selection strategy at the next year's draft now...
Lions Personnel: So Matt, who should be select in our round this year?
Matt Millen: Pick the wide receiver.
Lions Personnel: But Matt, we have so many other needs that we need to fill. Our offense line is weak, our defense could use a lot of work, our...
Matt Millen: I said pick the wide receiver!!!

yes John Kitna threw for over 4200 yards and 21 Td's, um... how many INT did he throw? 22...I agree with you about the horrible secondary, that's why they drafted 3 CB's...Of course it takes time to develop guys, you don't just get to the NFL and be a pro-bowler, well unless u're Vince Young...2nd point I like to make is "How in the world do you compare Mike Furrey to Calvin Johnson"? Mike Furrey been in the league for 4 years, and before last year, he caught a total of 21 passes, who knows what he can do this year, Calvin Johnson is a rookie, we all know he was a beast on college, so before we can crown him, let's wait and see how he plays, but even though you can't yet crown him, don't have to condemn him either, at least so far, they guy hasn't been anything but great....
Final point, Detroit is an average team this year, they might go 8 - 8, but does not have a winning-season team yet, give them 1 or 2 more years, and watch out, Matt Millen might not be there to watch it, but these guys will be good

" every1 single 1 of u guys is retarted
if lions hadnt gotten say 3 key injuries last year we wud have made playoffs
we lost 11 games by 7 or less points "
I think this explains exactly why the Lions are playing so well. This was an actual answer from the Millan himself. I watch one Lion's game per year and that is Thanksgiving. I wish they'd stop forcing them to play and put someone worth watching on.

You know...Calvin Johnson is just a WR.....they already had Mike Furrey and Roy Williams...it'll open up the passing game a little bit...but it doesn't really seem like that'll matter considering Kitna already threw for over 4,000 yards last year...They don't have much talent on defense at all....one of the worst secondaries in the league...other than Ernie Sims...the LB group is weak...and the DL...average....Offensive line is quite horrible...no RB on the team will average over 4.0 yards per carry there and Kitna will again get pressured on every play....
There is talent on the team....but they had Barry Sanders and still couldn't do anything special..what chance does Calvin Johnson have?

It's got to be Millen. It takes real brains to field a team that's 24-72 since he took over.

Nothing. Who says Calvin Johnson will be anything special? He probably will be, but look at Mike Williams/Shaun Rogers. He could be a bust, but he works hard, so probably not. Their QB is aging Jon Kitna, have a very poor offensive line, have a weak secondary, have questionable people in the front office. The organization is a wreck, but who knows - maybe they could turn it around in the next 50 years?
