Please help me find the proof on this matrix equivalence theorem.

Two mxn matrices A and B are equivalent if and only if B=PAQ for some nonsingular matrices P and Q.

As far as I can remember, B is derived from A and has the form of [10000;01000;00000;00000] if it's a 4x5 matrix.

Please state the definition of equivalent matrices. It sounds like you have stated the definition and asked for a proof.
