College Help!?!?!?

Where to go??????

My considerations at the moment: Texas A&M, Stanford, University of Colorado, Carnegie Mellon, Clemson

I have been extensively researching these places online, but that just isn't the same as actually going to the campus. Any insider info would be appreciated.

I am thinking about an engineering degree or something to do with languages (spanish).
I definitely want to study abroad.
I like to be around friendly people and places with lots of activities/clubs.
Anywhere in close proximity to skiing= AWESOME
Cost is a moderate concern.

Any other colleges that you think might work well for me?

university of new mexico is a GREAT school. it has a wonderful spanish department (top 5 in the nation, as far as i know), as well as many other language programs that are world renowned. the study abroad program is really well put together, and the standards for travel are reasonably low (meaning just about everyone has a shot). the cost is fairly low for a state college. i think it's about $10,000/year for out-of-state students, and there are LOTS of grants and stuff to get you through that, especially if you're a minority.

albuquerque is where main campus is, BEAUTIFUL scenery and amazing people. we've got a wonderful campus, not too big and well kept with both old and new facilities. the nightlife here is fantastic, very relaxed with a good local music scene. plus the school has a million clubs of all different kinds--something for everyone!

plus, we've got some of the best skiing in the country for waaaaay cheap ($10 lift tickets?! WHAT?! lol)

i know i sound really ridiculous, all school spirit-y and stuff, but it's true. UNM is a fantastic school, and new mexico is a great place to live! feel free to IM me if you're curious about anything else!

Given your concerns, it looks like the University of Colorado would be your best bet. Stanford is by far the best school of these, but you don't sound focused enough on academics to appreciate it. The others are fine, but not really close to skiing. The University of Colorado is a good school, and the skiing is definitely best. As a public school, it is cheaper than several of the others.

engineering... good schools would be
stanford, MIT, Georgia tech, UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCI(lolbias), harvard, john hopkins, cal tech.

for engineering, I think in my opinion since I'm an engineering major myself, it really doesn't matter where you go if you want to go to a top 50 college since you really learn the same stuff everywhere.

study aboard, you can do that at any college. close proximit to skiing, well that rules out california. As for friendly people, you can find those at any college regardless where you go. Lots of activities and clubs, you can find that wherever you go
