My Pontiac has about 158,000 miles on it, on the original timing chain. Should I get that replaced, or is a chain a real problem with breaking. The car starts and runs good, so it is not showing any signs of stretching.

Normally I'd say leave it alone. However, if this is a 3.1L code T motor they had a tendency to be fine and then either the chain would break or the cam gear would let go which caused a lot of these motors to get bent valves. You take your chances. I would rotate the motor by hand and feel how much slack is in the chain and base my decision on that. Good luck.
