There is a birth control pill called Lybrel coming out, talk to your doctor about it.
I do not recommend depo provera. Google "depo provera lawsuit" and check out its reviews on http://www.rateitall.com . I was on it for four years and the side affects (that MANY women have) are horrible!

Hysterectomy, or endometrial ablation.
Why doctors and health care professionals aren't spreading the word about ablations is beyond me!
An ablation is a very minor surgical procedure by which the lining of the uterus is removed- usually by burning with saline solution or instrument. it is performed by a doctor, often as an in office procedure.
The success rate for camplete period stoppage is bout 50% another 40 experience short, light periods.
If successful, you do not produce blood, but will still have some PMS and cramping is possible at the normal time -you will still go through menopause as that is controlled by your ovaries.
You cannot carry a pregnancy afterwards,so reliable birth contraol or sterilization is mandatory.
I had a hydrothermal ablation 18 months ago and have never had another period-best thing I have ever done,it gave me back my life.

Be very careful with what people tell you on this. There are ways of reducing symptoms of your period by being on birth control pills and even of stopping the cycle if you take them continuosly. However, any birth control pill, especially taken to stop your cycle all together, puts you at a greatly increased risk for uterine cancer, high blood pressure, and blood clots. Furthermore, depo provera makes some women bleed non stop for months, with no way to reverse it once the shot has been administered. before trying something that puts your health at risk, try gentle methods first. Eating a healthy diet is your first defense against problem periods. make sure you get plenty of calcium, B vitamins, and decrease intake of sugar. The herb dong quai has had amazing results for women if used properly to alleviate difficult periods. Also, it would be wise to examine any mental/emotional issues you have with your body that may be creating this problem. Finanlly, do go to a GYN and discuss the problem, there may be a medical reason such as endometriosis or an STd going on. Take good care of yourself!!

Well I can tell you how my period stopped, but I wouldn't recommend it. I lost weight a year ago due to anorexia and now I haven't had my period in 14 months. I am still a little underweight now, but I'm trying to make myself healthy again by gaining some weight back. Please don't force your period to stop, it is a beautiful thing, and I pray almost everyday for mine to come back. Even if you don't want children today you might want them a little later in life, so don't find a permanent solution for a temporary problem.
If you want to find out ways to ease the pain of your period you can search online. Here are some websites I have found:

I can't promise NO period, but a lot of people who get the shots after the first little bit, report leeser periods, and sometimes none. My best frind hasn'thad hers in 3 years
you could also take the pill, and instead of using the "dummy" pills for a week you canstart the new pack. Doctors have just proven it has no bad effect

That requires at least removal of your ovaries, but you might as well have a hysterectomy as well. Unfortunately, it gets harder and harder to get them all the time. They used to be easy to get for almost any complaint and now the pendulum has swung the other way.
And here's a website with more info: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hysterectomy/HQ00905

Well, the only option to stop your periods is to have a complete hysterectomy. That means the doctor removes your ovaries and uterus. You have to have the ovaries removed because the ovaries are what makes the eggs. Unfertilized eggs are what periods are.

Yes you can get a hysterectomy, but then you can't have kids. So if you don't want kids then go for it.
