Ugly means by initial appearance. We all know that looks are only skin deep. I can't think of any that when you first see them your first reaction is almost to be physically sick!

Lee marvin wasn't exactly a pretty boy but then, having your @ss shot off on Saipan didnt help. John Ireland, Orson Wells too. Modern day - Whoopie Goldberg is truly ghastly and Donald Sutherland is a real yukmeister. Jack Palance was so ugly you felt sorry for him. Richard Kiel (a minor celeb). Jeanne Moreau said that Marvin was the only real man she'd ever met so - there's no accounting for taste. Jack Elam was gruesome but not A list.

Willem Dafoe is another one, makes a great villain for movies though. And William H. Macy isn't the greatest looking guy, either. Judi Dench hasn't aged well, but god damn, there's a fine example of talent.
Amy Winehouse is not pretty at all. But with a voice like hers, who needs looks?

Woody Allan is not exactly handsome! But you're right to suggest that the movies stars are picked for their looks as much as their talent. Its quite hard to think come up with names of unattractive, never mind ugly stars. I personally don't think that Reece Witherspoon is very pretty, but she's certainly not ugly!
