A whole new bed, or just new box springs and mattress? At any rate, not very often about every 15 to 20 years for the bedding. The furniture will last a very long time if you buy quality stuff.

If you maintain the mattress by turning it once a year you should get at least 10 years from it. A good rule of thumb is whether or not the bed is still comfortable. If you are waking up with a backache every morning: it's time for a new bed :)

The materials used in the matress can make a difference, too. A salesman at a mattress store was telling us that the foam mattresses ( like Tempurpedic ) have to replaced more often because they compress more than a traditional matress will. I don't know if this is true because we never bought one.
