Absolutely true, due to diet and inactivity. Also more unhealthy (emotionally) due to the entertainment industry which pumps out gory, debased, morally degrading, mind numbing slop--plus family breakdowns, disrespect. Sexually teens face difficulty, too, as they're pushed into it by society or peer pressure...I feel sad for most teens as they really don't have much chance, & have too much pressure.

Well, first off, let me say I am a teenager. I don't really agree with this statement, but I see it's point. But it's not very clear since unhealthy can mean so many different things.
Starting with food. There's always been junk food and other unhealthy food out there. However, our school cafeterias are loaded with junk food these days. At my school, the only healthy foods are these disgusting ceasar salads and bowls of grapes. And some schools even have fast food restaurants in them. And fast food restaurants are so popular these days. We all know that kid, teen and adult obesity rates have skyrocketed recently. Plus, eating disorders are such a huge issue with teens today to try to look skinny. All of these things are really unhealthy. But there are teens out there who still try to eat healthily. I know that a lot more teens today are becoming vegetarians/vegans compared to our parents' generation. Aside from helping out animals, that's a huge step toward a healthier diet and lifestyle. But I'll agree that in general, foodwise, teens very unhealthy.
You also have to consider drugs, alcohol, and smoking. Like junk food, these substances have been around for a long time. Our parents used them. Our grandparents did. However, there is so much pressure put down on teens today not to do these things by teachers and parents. And if you look back 50 or so years ago, people though smoking wasn't bad for your health. Some people even went as far to say that it was good for your health and had health benefits. There have always been the stoners and druggies at schools. There were 50 years ago and there still are today. But luckily, kids do actually listen to their parents and teachers and most don't participate in these things since they know they are so bad for your health.
So, I agree that teens are unhealthy in some ways. Definately more unhealthy in their diets (generally). But with drugs, smoking and alcohol, I think that teens are much smarter about these substances and choices than they used to be.

Definately not as healthy these days - they don't like to be outside - prefer to be on computers or gaming consoles... they are lazier.. eating the wrong foods. Mum often works, so the food they eat after school say.. is unhealthy -whereas when I was a teen, I'd come home and snack on healthier food - someone was there to supervise.
Also because of both parents working - our main meals aren't as healthy - many parents opt for fast preparation meals, which are full of all kinds of bad things :(
If only we could get a parent to stay home and do what their real duty should be - bring up the kids! but with economy the way it is - thats not always an option any more.
Too many fast food joints around too - they're killing us!

I agree..... Kids are handed what they want cause they "deserve it". Not because that have earned it. This gives kids an unhealthy attitude towards work. Why work for it? Also, where is the feeling of self accomplishment? Working and striving for a goal and attaining it feels great. Kids are not getting this.
We as a society have unhealthy eating habits. Society does include kids! Parents train kids how to eat by what parents feed them!
We don't exersize enough. Why would we? All family members of driving age get that car they "deserve". Kids too young to drive get the motor scooter they "deserve". Walking is out of the question. Go outside to play? Play with what outside? With all the TV's, gaming systems and so on......kids have no idea how to "play"! Again unhealthy!
Isn't physical activity supposed to release those healthy endorphens? Doesn't a feeling of self accomplishment increases self-esteem? Are too many Americans over weight?
Yeah, I would say we are all UNHEALTHY nowadays!

A majority of the teenagers I see and interact with are in excellent shape and at their top physique. Once in a while I’ll come across a teenager who’s got a heavier build but is still in very good health. There’s a minority of the teenagers that I see and interact with that actually seem to be in poor health; it’s the ones that don’t do any physical activity at all and eat fast food as a main part of their diet. I know healthy teens that play video games and eat pizza, sure, but that’s not by a long shot all that they do. I’m of the opinion the claim at teens declining health is poorly based and the data gathered to form this thesis is drawn from the few that really are in poor health. My personal experience strongly suggests that these claims are inaccurate.

I don't know any teen-agers, but I'm inclined to agree with the findings, since I know some young'uns who will one day be teens, and I see how they eat.
They do not sit at the table and eat an entire meal. Most vegetables have a first name of EEeeewww. Fruit is only for topping ice cream or pulverizing into a smoothie.
And instead of playing outdoors and working off those unhealthy calories, they plop in front of the TV with a bowl of popcorn.

Physically, I agree. Living on fast food is the biggest problem. Obesity in our youth is at it's highest. Kids spend way too much time in the house play video games or sitting on a computer instead of playing outdoors.
I have a friend who is a nurse on a cardiac wing of a hospital who has seen people in their twenties in for bypass surgery. McDonalds, Wendy's, Arby's, KFC, and all of the rest being to easy a decision for parents has caused this. Kids don't eat the veggies they are supposed to. We, as parents, are destroying our children cause we don't want to be like our parents and force them to eat what is good for them and also monitor what their food consumption is on a given day.

i do agree (not just with teens but with adults and children too^^) and how could they not?? we walk across the street and there are ice cream trucks. we go into a fruit shop and there are chocolate bars at the counter. we go to school and the vending machines are selling chips!!
not only in eating but with their life style as well. i know my life style is unhealthy. though i eat alot of fruits and veggies and cut off candy and chips and stuff, i go home and sleep. then go to the computer. take a bath. watch tv. play video games. study for a bit. go back on the computer. go to sleep.
i think i just asnwered your question ^^ good luck with your research ^^

I agree. I have a 15 year old. Well she is my sister but I have custody and I cant get her to eat anything healthy. In order to get her to eat something that is good for her its a fight. I avoid as much junk as possible but she will say im not hungry and then sit and eat mcdonalds. She is fit bodywise but she has no real nutrition in my opinion.
