Yes, I think it is wrong, but I think the people that make the dogs end up in the shelter are just as bad: backyard breeders, pet shops, irresponsible dog owners, and puppy mills. We stricter laws that help control the dog overpopulation problem and decrease (and eventually eliminate) the number of dogs being euthanized in shelters.

Depends on the reason. Euthanizing an animal because they were unable to find a home in a given amount of time, or were just born the 'wrong breed', yes, that's unfair.
Shelters do what they can, but with animals constantly being abandoned, getting pregnant, and otherwise losing their homes....there's just not enough room and finances to support them all.
It's not the shelters that are at fault, though. It's irresponsible owners who abandon their animals when they move or have a baby, who train their animals to be aggressive and therefore not suitable for adoption, and of course, those who do not spay/neuter because they think it's ''wrong'', but don't realize that adding to the overpopulation is worse.

It always depends...Animals who are perfectly healthy and could have a happy home deserve to have one, but animals who are sick and will be in pain the rest of lives should be put down. But I think shelters who take in animals should all be no-kill shelters. I leader a girl scout troop, and we went to a beach cabin, and there was a starving cat there with no food or water. One troop posted it was there cat, but it actually belonged to no one.(we called the cabin owners and contacted all the neighbors) So we took her home. I already have 4 pets, and cannot take any more. For about threemonths, I kept her at my house, looking for a forever home for her. Eventually, I had to take her to a shelter. I ook her to the best in the state, C. A. T. (cat adoption team) It is like a kitty hotel, and a no-kill shelter. If you have an animal you need to take to a shelter, I suggest visiting the place first, seeing everything there to make sure the animal would be fine. Long hail no-kill shelters, and DO NOT BREED YOUR PETS UNLESS IT IS FOR PROFIT AND YOUR ANIMAL HAS GOOD BREEDING! MILLIONS OF ANIMALS ARE MADE HOMELESS EVERY YEAR BECAUSE OF THIS! Spay and neuter!!!! If you have any further questions, feel free to e-mail me!

Well it depends on why they are putting them to sleep. I think it ok if the dog is in pain and is dying and instead of having it live with pain they put him to rest. Now if there is just to many dogs in the pound and they are putting dogs to sleep for that. Now I think that is wrong and they should have a dog saturary for dogs to live their lives out and be happy.

It is not necessarily about being wrong. It becomes an issue of space.
Our local dog pound does not put dogs to sleep as long as they have space for them.
My dogs are rescued dogs from the pound. They are the most loving dogs in the world.
I don't like it that they have to put dogs to sleep but even pounds run out of space for all the dumped, abused, and abandoned dogs and cats.

I think its right under some circumstances. If the dog is suffering and other things like that then its probably best to put animals to sleep. If there isn't really a reason then its the wrong thing to do..

It's more wrong for irresponsible pet owners not to have their pets fixed so the homeless pet population fills up the pound and the pound workers cannot afford to feed and care for them all.
It all starts from there. People at the pound don't like euthanizing animals, but it's more humane than letting them either die in the streets or die from the lack of funds to care for them all indefinitely.
If you want to make a difference, help promote the importance of spaying and neutering animals.

The only way to stop the killing is to stop the breeding first.
Its wrong that dogs are bred for money. Its wrong that people would rather support puppy mills and buy from a petshop instead of rescue. Its wrong that people refuse to spay and neuter their pets.
Shelters do not have much choice. They dont want the euthanize dogs, but they just dont have room for all of them. They have to euthanize to make room for more.
I dont think no-kill shelters are uncruel either. Some of those dogs end up living the rest of their lives in a cage, hoping to be adopted. Sometimes, euthanasia is the best option.

If they are injured or sick beyond repair then it is humane to put them down. I personally get sickened when I think about the amount of dogs put to sleep each year, but you also have to think about it from the pound's point of view. I mean, it really isn't their fault if no one adopts the dog and they simply don't have enough room for it. And at least they gave it a place to stay and food to eat.
