It seems impossile but I'm 60 this year. When I was 16 I thought I'd be spent at 50. I have the idea that I'll live another 30 or 40 years. Do you feel your life is almost over or do you expect longevity?

Juju, my Dad died at 51. My Mom died at 68. My sister died at 50. My brother died at 56.

Now, given that I am 52, if genetics play a big role in this...I doubt I'll see 60!

But, I do not fear death. If God granted me anohter 20 or, so years, that would be great! However, if He chose to call me today, I am ready!

It was my 50th birthday last week - and I still find it amusing that I have those numbers attached to ME?!!

When I think of all that has gone on in my life in the last 50 years (there I go again - laughing to think that I am 50!) - it has been one hell of a ride! And I don't think that I could go through the exact same stuff again and come out of it smiling - however, I am feeling more certain of myself, think that I don't look half bad (!) and I'm as fit as I have ever been if I don't take into consideration my poorly knee or the few extra pounds that I carry around for comfort!

My husband and I always say that if we get twenty years of good health and happiness between retirement and the final goodnight - that will do us nicely. Everyday after that will be a bonus.

If I could call it a day when I chose - I would say it would be the day when I no longer laugh, when I have no-one to love or when sleep seems more welcoming than waking up.

And by the way - word on the street says that you are here for WAY LONGER than another 40 years!

Stay strong!
Love and smiles all the way friend!

I have no plans of dying..I am 66. I suspect I will see 100 if I choose to do so...but I can not predict the future any more than anyone else can. WE have added about 20-30 years to our life expectancy in the last 100 years, and so much of this new age is filled with good life, not dissapation as was the generation before my mother's. AS it stands today, it is expected that life expectancy is about to reverse for many reasons, not the least is overpopulation...a very real threat. It would seem that only China has a real goal on reduction of population. Here, we think it is our inherant right to have as many children as we can....we DO NOT! Here, we disuade our children from learning true birth control, we dissuade abortion, we do everything in our power to produce more and more people...one of the most unhealthy things we can do...we act in total ignorance in the guise of religion...and it is this way of thinking that will do us in over time...even lemmings have the knowledge to kill themselves off when their population reaches critical conditions...we are well past that point, yet we want more and more children...preposterous! Some people actually believe there is no reason for poverty and starvation in the world...these people have no comprehension of how far resources will go. They will never go far enough to prevent misery of starvation, no matter what we do unless we work aggressively to reduce population...we just cannot produce that kind of food, and we are running out of oil, a basic component of fertilizer for our crops...we have gone nuts!

I want to go out when I can still walk, talk, have my mind functioning, well reasonably so anyhow, when my kids dont have to feed me and change my diapers.

They have promised me they wont let me end up like my mother did.

I figure given the family history I should have about 30 or 35 more years. I dont eat the crap my parents did, I eat healthy foods, take lots of supplements, watch my cholestrol levels, have regular check ups. take calcium magnesium, exercise my brain every day, exercise my body as much as I can.

Dying doesnt worry me, living is the harder of the two options. I just have to figure out now what I am going to do with those 30 or 35 years. Doesnt seem very long does it?

Seeing my mothers life and where it ended I decided then there better be something damn good between now and then, some really GOOD memories, because no one wants to be lying there thinking I starched my curtains and mowed my lawn twice a week. Carpe Diem

I am 55 and I feel like I did at 30. I remember my grandmother was So Old at my age. She had grey short curly hair and wore an apron. I'm still working, going to the gym hiking, doing all kinds of stuff. I work on a daily basis with the geriatric population and I can only pray that I continue with the health that I am blessed with. I think the secret to a great middle age is Activity and Learning.

I'm 55 and struggling with it. I think part of what keeps me from moving ahead confidently is thinking that I'm winding down in my life instead of starting over. I have another 30 to 40 years and a lot can happen in that time. Plus I don't have to waste any of that time dealing with the things that preoccupied me in my 20s, 30, and 40s!

If I go by my family averages, my death should be anywhere between 85 and 95 years of age.

All I can say is that if I am not enjoying my life every day in some way, I don't want to be living it either.

Your body can be decrepit--held together by chicken wire and elastic. As long as your mind remains active and reactive to the world around you, then you can enjoy life. And that is the reason we are all here plugging along after all, isn't it?

I have had several relatives live past 100. Even more well past 90. Many are in their late 80's ( I'm 84) so yes I fully expect to live well into my 90's or past unless Jesus comes to reclaim the Earth. Then I'll be living with the Lord with a new young body.

Two of my younger brothers are gone, as is my father. I will be turning 60 next month. My Mom will be 86. You can never tell, so I don't worry about it. It can't be any worse than this life has been. But who knows what we will find, until we get to the other side.

I expect longevity. I have records for my family which go back to the 11th Century. None of my male ancestors died of natural causes before the age of 80.
