well about selling the car for parts, we are not going to sell it in pieces. We looked on ebay and we found that for all it has in it we can sell all the pieces like the doors mirrors seats and make over $1000

This proceedure on your engine, assuming it's a four cylinder, will run you about $600. Head gaskets don't "blow", the cylinder head warps ever so slightly (fraction of a millimeter)and this allows gasses and oil and coolant to go where they shouldn't.

It can occur on any engine but 4 and 6 cylinder engines are more prone to this fate. People drive these smaller engines harder than you might push a V-8 since they are trying to "zoom" as fast as the next car to get on and off the Interstates and so forth. As you can imagine it's easier on a V-8 when you stomp on the gas and have your A/C running and radio blasting and lights on draining power from the engine. There is more horsepower to weight ratio and it takes fewer RPM's to gain speed at a faster rate due to the higher torque and so on.

Depending on mileage, you might consider doing a swap and drop. Have them pull your engine and swap it out with a fresh rebuild or you could buy a new motor. Either way make sure you get a decent warranty. Most rebuilds will have a 3-year/50,000 mile warranty. I think Jasper rebuilt engines have a three year unlimited mileage warranty.

Head gasket, properly, includes gauging and magnafluxing the head and grinding the valves and lapping in the valves. This is to make sure there are no cracks and the head is not warped. Most heads are resurfaced (machined) prior to re-installation. They can also just swap out the head with a rebuilt one from the local machine shop.

As for selling the car for parts, if it is in terrible shape then you might consider this. Most junkyards will give you about $500 for a car that hasn't been wrecked and just needs some expensive service like a tranny or engine.

You can take out a loan using the car as collateral (sp) to get the money to repair it. They will appraise the car as is and tell you the value after inspection.

Good Luck!

you know what i think they are talking about? i think they are talking about a blown valve pan gasket because if you get the oil changed then it,s just going to leak back out. the head gasket fits under the head and it keeps the anti-freeze from going into your oil and out the tailpipe. if it,s not smoking white and there is no anti-freeze in the oil then it,s safe to say it,s not the head gasket.

it could be that it had blown a gasket before you got it also, and they didn't do the repair right ,its not that old of a car,but if its a problem car i might consider parting it out ,or selling the whole thing to someone who might want to put the money in to it to repair it,any car that cost a lot to keep up is not worth having around.its up to you,it may still be a problem car once its repaired,so you might want to consider selling it ,and trying your luck with something else, good luck on it.
