For the four years we were together, I lent him money, and occasionally, he'd pay it back. When we moved out of state, I put him under my credit and let him use the card with his name so that he could buy things he needed. however, he racked up the credit card, and left me owing $2400. I've been struggling to make the payments every month, and now with school starting, I can barely pay as it is.
He answered my emails (ie= myspace) that he would pay it back, but it's been a year and nothing. He moved back to CA, and I am now in Texas. WTH do I do??

few options here. and none of them are going to be easy.

1) Civil lawsuit. Take him to civil court. And that doesn't even mean he will have to pay it back.

2) From my understanding you are in college. So you are involved and know many college males. Financially college is tough for some people. You could offer a percentage of the 2400 to some male(s) counterpart(s) that could take a weekend driving to cali and beat/threaten it out of him.

you would be amazed, 200 - 400 dollars would make alot of people happy. Heck, 100 and a weekend in cali might cut it for the "brawn, no brains" type.

Violence is always an option if you need 2400 dollars of your money. Sounds like he is wearing new clothes curtesy of you.
You are even paying the juice (12-23%) so he can live in a style that he does not deserve.

Good luck.

Unfortunately because you have nothing in writing, even small claims court will have a tough time proving that he owes you the $2400- they'll probably say something like- it's all a he says she says sort of thing where there is no actual proof of the $2400 being a loan. But you can always try to do the small claims court thing and see what happens.

You are probably out the $2400 because since you're the one receiving the bill, and he's an authorized user on your account, you owe the money. The one thing you could suggest to him that he could do if he's actually willing to pay you back is for him to open his own new credit card and transfer the balance from your card onto his new card (of which many 'junk mail' offers he probably gets in the mail may offer him a promotional 0% or 3-4% rate on the transferred balance for 6-12 months). That way he could make regular monthly payments and you'd be clear of the debt. But obviously he'll have to sign off on that... which probably won't happen. Otherwise, as a last resort you can try to appeal to his parents or something, they may be able to convince him to pay you back.

Lose the money, learn the lesson- never agree to put anyone on your credit card unless you are 100% they are going to be responsible and pay the bill on time.

You can certainly sue him. Collection? That's an entirely different story. Winning does not insure collection, people are not forced to write a check to you when they lose, they get a judgment placed against them and they either pay it, or....well....they don't. Once you win, there are certain avenues that you can take to collect some, if not all of the judgment. You can't take his house or car or things such as that. Consider the expenses of TRYING to collect against the odds of actually collecting.

Open a credit card in his name and charge the balance of yours to it. Then mail him the credit card and attach a sticky note with a smiley face on it.

If you were in the same state, you could take him to small claims court. Otherwise, you may be out of look.
