My battery lasts for about 1-2.5 hours at maximum dim and high preformance vista battery setting. You would need to buy a data card and a subscription. Wireless companies such as Verizon, Cingular and T-Mobile have data cards and subscriptions.
Sometimes, there will be free wireless networks at a hotel, airport, around the neighborhood. You may be able to use these, however use caution, because they can monitor your activity.

Batteris last depending on what capacity they are (4-6-9-12 cell) and how thye're used. Turn off all unneeded programs and devices. Uf you use NIC instead of wifi, you get more time. Turn off items in msconfig. Anything that uses processor cycles or memory uses power and power usage means heat which means less battery. You can set up individual power profiles optimized for when youre at home, at school and when youre a road warrior.
As far as using the internet. Go to any wifi hotspot and just surf away. Most bookstores and coffee sops have them. If you want WWAN, you have to buy a verizon, sprint or tmaobile card and pay per month

Depends on the settings you have ur laptop on. If you have Windows Vista, you can optimize your battery settings easier. I can get up to 2 hours with mine. Thats having Itunes, Microsoft Word, and the internet all running at the same time.

To be able to use your internet outside of your home you have to go to a place where DSL wirless is used and then you will be able to use the internet. I don't have a laptop, but the battery last about an hour.

battery life is dependent on battery age, model, initial charge, the way you use it, etc.
To use the Internet outside of your house, you either need to find an open unsecured wireless network or you can get a PCMCIA modem that connects to a wireless service like Sprint. Sprints' wireless Internet service is something like $30 a month. Unsecured wireless networks are free.
