Reagan had vigorously resisted congressional pressure to withdraw the Marines, so his announcement to withdraw troops took Washington by surprise.......

Interesting question... Reagan did pull the troops out of Beirut after the barracks were bombed. I find it very funny that a above answer is trying to spin this as "Congress's" fault... it was the Pentagon, the NSA that decided this and the Reagan administration heads both of those institutions... and you know what? Pulling our troops out of that area was the right thing to do... (and it never had anything to the Cold War, thats just ridiculous)... we had a engaging State Department then that was realistic and capable of conducting diplomacy to unfriendly regimes. We could walk a tight rope then... Condi Rice can't even tie her shoes.

No, Reagan didn't cut and run, because the US never invaded and occupied Lebanon. Secondly, Reagan withdrew from Lebanon after 243 Marines were killed when their barracks were bombed.

The situation in Iraq is completely different. Iraq is a nation we invaded, occupied and overthrew their government. All of this predicated on a series of lies.

Absolutely! They often fail to mention that and more in his historical rewrite.

If Carter didn't perform so poorly, the very first neo-con, Reagan, would never have had a chance. Reagan marked the decline of Western Civilization.

The Cold War was still going on at the time and the threat of a nuke war. He had bigger fish to fry.

Two totally different situations. Nice try, but not a fair comparison.
