It certainly will make the job easier. If the sides are sharp just smooth them out with an open flame and sandpaper. Heat the tub and then sandpaper your problem away. Make sure to wear a protective mask while your doing so cuz the toxic stuff might hurt you. Give me the 10 points. You need to purchase a lubricant at your local hardware store to make the filing easier to use. Put the lubricant on the edges and light it and then use the file to smooth it out. Febreeze once and a while so you dont g3t too dizzy. If you do well thats ok too. Don't hurry you want the job done right the first time.

Most likely you will just end up with gobs that can be sharp. If this tub is fiberglass it will make things real bad.
Best thing to do is to use sand paper or some other abrasive to smooth the sides out. Start with a real rough grit then as it gets smoother use finer abrasives.

Definitely not. When fiberglass burns it releases toxic fumes that can really harm you if unprotected. Plus you will end up with tons of black smoke an a ceiling covered in soot. Best way is to level them out with a grinder/jigsaw blade/a knife with jagged cutting edge. then smooth them using first gritty sandpaper and work your way up to the very fine sandpaper. You should obtain a nice smooth edge on the fiberglass. and remember to use protective gloves, goggles and a mask in order to protect your hands and to stop the fiberglass particles from ending up in your eyes or lungs.
Hope my advice helped

I wouldn't burn the plastic, besides being dangerous, it can put off harmful fumes. You can use a metal file to dull the sharp edges.

Like maximum hydracarbons, if no longer burnt warm adequate, it may bring about the formation of carciogens. although, as a by-made from oil, they could be considered as a gasoline. Don't use flame! A file will work best. Better yet, use a good sharp jigsaw bladde to make the cuts.

You want to talk about some black smoke and soot, just go ahead and try burning it. Nasty. Use a grinder if you want to smooth the edges. Just don't burn it. It really makes a mess.
