I personally think they are ridiculous, and see no direct meaning. I can understand a possible drug screen, or a major criminal record, but the credit, and drawn out employment and lien's and bankruptcy bit is unfair. They have agencies that actually do them for companies. I personally appreciate the olden days of taking people at face value untill proven otherwise. I think it's just a ridiculous jump on the bandwagon service, and I don't see it relevant. How do other people feel?

The credit checks are absolutely Ridiculous....I will agree with you.

And besides if one has debts, isn't it better that they be given a job so that they can pay back their debts.

Everyone makes mistakes, those checks are absolutely moronic.

I think all background checks are good for the most part. The credit checks are useful in ascertaining whether you can be trusted with money. In almost every job you will have, you will need to be entrusted with something of value. If you have filed for bankruptcy or defrauded individuals in the past, this is information I would certainly want to know. This is really commonplace now. Besides, you wouldn't have to worry about it if you were doing what you were supposed to be doing. It is clear that people can't be taken at their word- hence the checks!

I don't see anything wrong with any of it and as one person said, a bonding company needs to know the information. But more than that, your credit history also says alot about what kind of responsible or irresponsible person you are, as does the criminal and driving record.

Maybe this is why we used to be taught to take pride in who we are and keep our name clean. Usually the only people that complain about things like this are those who have no direction and buy anything and everything they want and then aren't able to pay for it or messed up big time and don't want others to know about their poor choices in life.

Certainly such checks have a purpose and are more relevant in some jobs than others. For example, a local Casino does such checks on new prospective employees. It is perfectly reasonable to assume that those with bad credit (for example) are more likely steel money with which they are working.

they are not ridiculous at all. if one could depoend upon a persons honesty then there would be no need. the problem is that peoples memory and honesty are often called into question..the importance in them is that they back up what you say and write.they will also talk to your neighbors. it is very important and it often shows things about the applicant that the application itself does not show.backgrounds here take from 9months to a year.retired texas deputy sheriff

Of course it is relevant. Allot of companies have to Bond you and the Bonding company wants to know the information. It protects Companies from hiring people who have or do drugs have been in trouble with drinking in the past and their spending habits. I would hire no one with out a check.

I support them. If a person's credit history shows they're irresponsible, I wouldn't want to hire them. And if my credit history shows I've been more responsible than someone else, then I think it's good that a company would be more likely to hire me than someone else.
